Let’s Look: DanMachi Episode 9: My Man Leveled Up

Bell you can’t just be hanging around in the lower levels now. You’ve got too much awesome for those newbs on those levels

So we start off the episode with Bell and Eina. She’s asking if something good happened to him.

Just look at the glee on his face. If I didn’t know better I’d think he got what Shiro’s going to get from Rin in episode 22.

And when she asks him about he gets interrupted by some guy with red hair asking for someone to join his party.

And then Eina goes all EEH on Bell and says this.

That’s Bell for you. That Realis Phase ain’t any joke. Just look at the shock in her face and all while Bell’s blushing like a kid.

After the opening we have Bell sitting around while Hestia updates his status and he’s checking out his minotaur horn. I didn’t think he was the type to keep souvenirs.

So after Hestia finishes up Bell says nothing feels different.

Good one Hestia. Anyway Hestia’s got some good news. My man, the next legend in the making has a new skill but first let’s check out Bell’s stats.

Good god! They’re freaking high as hell! And he’s mind blowing fast and he’s got a pretty good magic stat. That Realis Phase ain’t no joke!

But back to the skill.

Why would she know about that? Because she’s a Greek Goddess so of course she’d know about the Argo. I’m not sure if she shows up in that story but she would know about it.

Then Hestia teases Bell about how he wants to be hero. Maybe he should go to Shiro and Archer and get lessons.

I don’t know why but I consider this to be very cute and I don’t know why…

So after Bell exclaims like a girl we see that Hestia’s gotten dressed.

Hmm must be something she’s got to do. What’s up Hestia?

I’d personally want something legendary like Deven the Great, Deven the Best but hey I’m not vain…

So we switch over to Hestia at the Dentasu where she meets up with one of her friends the Japanese god Takemikazuchi. He’s up there because apparently one of his familia just leveled up too. That’s good for them but no one can lay a hand on Bell.

And while Hestia’s at the Dentasu, Bell’s all happy about what title he could get.

That epic fail on all of them…

After that he looks at the armor that helped him get here so far. It was some nice armor and it had some style!

And after the Dentasu Hestia comes back and says this.

Forget something normal. Does Sword Princess sound normal? No because it’s cool!

So Bell’s title is Little Rookie…so boring. Can we reroll for something with a bit more swag or something. The Knife Knight or something.

So we go to Bell and Lili eating at the tavern where Syr and Ryuu join them because it’s a congrulations party!

Meanwhile a lot of the folks in the bar are starting to take notice of Bell. Apparently they’ve heard of him.

So then they start talking about how Lili and Bell are heading into the middle levels of the dungeon and Ryuu gives her legendary advice as a former adventurer.

She recommends that they should make a party and make sure to pace themselves.

Then one of the guys sitting around offers his services but in exchange they’ve got to lend out these hot girls he’s always hanging out with. If you’re going to Bell can I have Lili? She’s cute but not too lolish. She’s actual boobs not just a flat little girl.

Ryuu ain’t having that so she’s just tells them to get lost and they ain’t even worth Bell’s time. And when they try and touch Ryuu, she goes all former adventurer on them.

And only with a beer mug. Ryuu confirmed for best girl!

So the guy tries to attack Ryuu but Ryuu pulls out a knife from literally nowhere but the fight’s stopped when Mama Mia hits the bar…well that says what happened but not the actual scale.

Apparently being a barmaid is much more badass than being an adventurer…

And Mia says if they want to fight do it outside and they run like little girls.

The next day we see Bell checking out some armors and he’s looking for some Welf Crozzo works but they don’t seem to have any.

And this guy must be a blacksmith complaining about his armors and stuff getting put in the back of the store. Ah the suffering…

So Bell walks up to the counter and asks if they still sell any of Welf Crozzo’s works and the guy gets all happy.

And he heaves a chest of armor onto the counter and says that he’s Welf Crozzo.

Nice. I like it. It looks a lot like the old one but with some new style to it.

So Welf asks if Bell wants to make a direct contract with him. Hmm what does that entail? I just read a chapter of Fuuka where Yuu signed a nearly impossible to fulfill contract mostly because he didn’t read it.

Oh that’s nice but he wants something in exchange. Don’t sign a contract without reading it first Bell-kun.

Oh that’s it. Come on in!

So we flash to the next day and we see that Welf’s a part of the team now and now they’re going to the 11th floor.

Lili is less than pleased…

I get the same face when I talk to trolls on the internet.

And then she asks why doesn’t Welf just go adventuring with his own Familia. Just so you know he’s a part of the Hephaestus Familia.

And Lili immediately picks up. Basically Welf doesn’t get along with his Familia, told Bell a sob story, then gave him some new armor. Wow…it’s almost like she was there.

And Lili goes off on Bell about how he could have told her but then Welf butts in and says hi and calls her Lil Lili…sounds cute…

And when Bell tries to appease her, she hears Welf’s last name.

Turns out that he’s a part of a family of fallen blacksmith nobles and then she explains.

Sounds like my life…sad it isn’t it.

However Welf says that it doesn’t matter and as that happens all types of monsters are coming out.

Once the fight get started, Bell notices that he’s faster since reaching Level 2.

And his magic has gotten even stronger.

Then we switch over to Aiz and the Loki Familia fighting a boss on one of the higher floors. Looks like they’re all fired up after seeing Bell. Even Aiz is jumping into the fray.

After that we head back to Bell and Co. where they relaxing after that little fight. Bell and Welf comment on how easy it is to move and work while in a party but something’s up with Bell’s hand.

I can see this turning out to be Bell’s skill Argonaut but that’s just me. Then it turns out bad since something big and nasty comes around.

Aww it’s a baby…dragon. Run away!

But Lili’s too busy picking up the magic stones to notice. Well she had a nice run and she was really cute but at the end, she’s going to die.

He oneshotted it…Bell confirmed for OnePunch manga!

Yeah I had to do it.

And once he gets back Hestia confirms what I thought. It was the Argonaut skill activating.

And Bell’s just dumb enough to pull it off. Please let it be random. The last thing we want out of Bell is for him to be overpowered.

So after that explanation, Bell asks about Welf’s family. She doesn’t know much other that what everyone else knows. However she does know a bit about Welf himself. Apparently he’s the only one in his family that can make the magic weapons but chooses not to. What’s up with that? If I could make weapons, they’d all be magic. One that shoots water, one that uses fire, the possibilities are endless.

So the next day it’s a day off since Lili needs to take care of her sick landlord. So with nothing to do, Welf asks Bell if he could come with him for the day.

And Bell goes with him and says that he’ll make Bell some all new equipment too.

So they go to the workshop and Welf asks what he wants and Welf decides to make a new knife out of the minotaur horn that Bell’s been carrying around since he beat it.

And while Welf is making the knife, he explains why he doesn’t make magic items. After checking out some stuff, I can see why. In Danmachi, magic items are expensive, fragile, and hard to make. They’re just supposed to add on to user’s amount of magic they can use but some people misuse them.

And after that the knife is complete.

Now go forth Bell and do your Kirito duel wield thing! And the name of this weapon is Ushiwakamaru. I have no idea what that means but it sounds cool.

And the episode ends with Bell and Welf promising to be more like comrades and Bell starts it by calling Welf by his name without any honorifics.

Then after the credits we get that Bell, Lili, and Welf are heading to a new floor, the 13th floor. Things are getting good.

I can’t wait to see how things play out in the next episode. I wonder if we’ll see more of Freya?
