Spring Update: Things to Expect

Hey everyone it’s Deven Luca and I’m coming at you with a Spring Update.

I got the idea for this from my good friend Joe at the Reviewer’s Corner.

So I’m going to outline some stuff that will be both coming to the blog and some stuff that is currently up with me.

1. Sorry About Late Reviews

First thing is sorry about the reviews being late. I’ve been on exam watch for the last two or three weeks. So I haven’t had the time to write since I work at night.

Give me another few days and I should be able to get them all out. Unfortunately a good chuck of them will be Mini Review style.

2. My Return to Love Live School Idol Festival

Love_Live!_full_1875570

One of my weaknesses throughout my life has always been impatience. I definitely got that from my mother. I’m also some what…okay I’ll say it! I’m cheap!

Or at least I want to get something less than what it is. Which is why I was so eager to get that Samsung Tablet and that Insignia tablet. Unfortunately neither worked. The Samsung tablet was there solely for parts and the Insignia tablet had a warped charging port. I could still use it but I’m not about keeping or buying broken things.

That being said, I’m focusing on getting a good tablet. An Acer tablet. I’m going to trying to get it from a local bulk vendor. I’m guessing that I should get it either before the upcoming Honoka event or before the Rin Event.

Either way I know I will be back before the Eli or Nozomi events at the end of June.

That being said I’m going to have a new layout for how I do the Before and After the Event posts. I realized that I was just showing you my progress through the event and not showing you a good way to beat the event. So I’m going to have some more information about the Event, polls that determined the popularity of idols so you know how hard to go to get that second card, and so on.

It’s going to a bit of work but I’m going to love it.

3. My Writing Process

I guess it’s pretty obvious that my first blog, Thief Fantasy and Other Mystical Happenings, has been abandoned. It felt way too much like a job and I didn’t want it to be like that.

But I want to bring some of the stuff that I’m writing about here to AnimeThief. So I’m going to write a post about I write a new work. Granted I’m not a good writer but I can at least tell how I write.

4. Deven Says

I’ve seen a lot of Anime blogs around talking about some of the issues in the anime community. I want to sound off about this. I’ll be saying what topic I’ll later.

5. Novelette Chapters

And the biggest piece of news!

I’ve been bored lately and I feel like writing something new. So I’m going to be posting every month a chapter of a novelette story set in one of my many writing universes. This one will be set in the Soul Saver Series Universe and it will be called the Dragon Crystal Cave Raid.

Let the blurb roll!

Rez Proudheart, a young mage living in the beautiful sky city of Epala, sits around his home, training and studying for his battle to save the soul of a friend.

While he trains, he and his allies are called upon by good friends, Ambrose Dragonfang and his wife Roxanne. They ask for help on a great quest to increase their Dragon Slayer power.

The mission: enter the Dragon Crystal Cave, travel through the seven Turns facing seven deadly Elemental Dragons to reach the legendary Dragon Crystal which grants massive Dragon Slayer Magic power.

However there will be mages that will seek out this legendary Crystal that only comes into existence every 770 years. Can Rez and his friends face the challenges and obtain the Crystal?

Sound good? This will be a series that updates monthly. I think I might be able to get it out around 3rd week of each month until the novelette is over.

I just want to say that since my writing style at least with more fantasy based things is more video game like. I blame playing a lot of fantasy games, SAO, and playing Final Fantasy as a child. There will be character sheets, stat sheets, articles that explain magic in the Soul Saver Series Universe.

Pixiv_Fantasia_full_136369

So that’s it. I should be able to start Deven Says as well as the Dragon Crystal Cave Raid Novelette in June.

Anime Thief One Year Anniversary

It’s been a long time hasn’t it?

Hey everyone it’s Deven. This is a very special post here on AnimeThief. This is my one year anniversary. Well technically my anniversary was April 1st but I had a lot of school stuff to deal with so I couldn’t make the post.

Hmm how did AnimeThief start? Good question. I had already been a blogger at my other and first blog, Thief Fantasy and other Mystical Happenings. However it was suckish. I really felt unfulfilled. I felt like I was writing these posts because I had to not because I wanted to. It felt like a job and not something I was doing because I enjoyed it.

Then my friend SkyCorps told me that he was starting an anime blog. And that lit a fire right there. I had already loved anime since I was a little kid and writing about it would have been a dream come true.

My first review that I did made myself(The first few reviews I posted were borrowed from SkyCorps) was my review of Date A Live 2 Episode 4 .

Sorry it isn’t up to where my standards are for now. I don’t think I’ll go back and fix them. I prefer to keep moving forward.

So I was wrote this post while I was sitting around at my house, trying to find some reason to get out of the bed everyday. I didn’t have any reason to do anything. My high school diploma was tied up with things that I can’t talk about. I was wondering what was the point to anything and I was feeling that writing Thief Fantasy and Other Mystical Happenings out of a sense of duty rather than doing it because I enjoyed it.

Then SkyCorps announced that he was going to make his own anime blog and that gave me an idea. Like I said above, anime was something that I liked.

As the season when on I reviewed, Date A Live, Akuma no Riddle, Fairy Tail 2nd Series, Rail Wars, Trinity Seven, Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works, Koufuku Graffiti and Isuca with no holding back and I’ll keep going.

Now looking at things as they are now, I’m happy. I’m shocked by the fact that as of April 6th I have nearly 49,262 views in little less than a year, over 210 posts, and a lot of friends that I’ve made while blogging. It’s great that I have made it so far in only one year.

So now that I’ve come this far, what’s next? I’m thinking of adding some writers to the blog. I’d like the sense of community that I have with AnimeCorps and I want something like that with me as the leader. I know that would be a really big responsibility but I think that I can handle it.

I couldn’t make this far without your support and I thank you for that. I hope that you’ll continue to look around at AnimeThief in the future.

Thanks again and Later Days!

You can ask me as many questions as you want on Ask.fm and you can follow me on Twitter to know when my new reviews are coming out. You’ll know when stuff comes out right when it does! 🙂

Also check out my right hand man, SkyCorps on AnimeWithSky where I’m also a writer. We’ve got some good reviews from all the writers, Speculations, Light Novel Reviews, and Manga Chapters Reviews. What are you waiting for? Come and check us out! You won’t regret it!

Also I decided to affiliate with Play-Asia.

Liebster Award Nomination

Let’s go!

I’d like to thank Josef from The Reviewer’s Corner for nominating me for it.

To be fair I didn’t expect to be nominated since I’m a member of AnimeCorps but hey I’ll take it. I can’t deny that isn’t going to be hard to pull off with the recommendations.

More later on that. Now onto business.

Official Rules of the Liebster Award:

If you have been nominated for The Liebster Award AND YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT, write a blog post about the Liebster award in which you:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you, and post a link to their blog on your blog.
  2. Display the award on your blog — by including it in your post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”. (Note that the best way to do this is to save the image to your own computer and then upload it to your blog post.)
  3. Answer 11 questions about yourself, which will be provided to you by the person who nominated you.
  4. Provide 11 random facts about yourself.
  5. Nominate 5 – 11 blogs that you feel deserve the award, who have a less than 200 followers. (Note that you can always ask the blog owner this since not all blogs display a widget that lets the readers know this information!)
  6. Create a new list of questions for the blogger to answer.
  7. List these rules in your post (You can copy and paste from here.) Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
  8. Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!).

Let’s go! Here are the questions!

1. What is one anime series that you would recommend to people, that you enjoy and think not a lot of people have seen? Also why.

Suzuka, mostly because it’s somewhat ecchi in a way. It’s given a mature rating in English because all of the bath house scenes are uncensored. However the story is remarkably good.

2. Who is your favorite character? Can be in manga, anime, comics or anything. (Also say the show)

Hmm I think it’d be Juvia Lockser from Fairy Tail. Why? Because she’s so open and loving as well. I feel really happy that she finally got to live with and be with Gray during the timeskip but then Gray had to be a idiot and give it up. Quit whining about wanting to kill END Gray and go back to your hot and devoted girlfriend.

3.What is your favorite manga/comic/book/reading material?

It’d be either Date A Live or Fate/Apocrypha, both Light Novels. I got drawn to Date A Live by my good friend and right hand man, SkyCorps, and haven’t looked back.

Date A Live and its second season is one of the few animes that I have downloaded in 1080p and keep it on my computer.

As for Apocrypha I love it for the fact that it’s just something from the Fate universe and the fact that it’s a serious Grail War on the a massive scale.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Fate/Stay Night but as Gilgamesh said “This is a war which mucks around with women and children!”

Six masters were teenagers and three female Servants in the war. Not being sexist.

As well as the whole ideals theme, I love it but sometimes you just want people to fight for selfish reasons. And I got that in Apocrypha.

4. Who is your anime crush?

It’s a tie between Juvia Lockser and Mirajane Strauss.

5.Are you a college student? If so what Major. If you are not, just say no.

Yes, I am. My major is Management Information Systems. At my school it used to be Computer Information Systems or Computer Sciences but they added some classes to the registry so they changed the name.

6.What do you like to do in your spare time?

I read mostly but I’m like that anime character that joins a lot of clubs and then quits them. Over the course of 21 years, I’ve been an artist, a poet, a handyman, librarian, and a janitor. I also picked up the freeware software to make Visual Novels but then remembered how C- Ranked my art is and I can’t play music.

7.What VN, LN, or manga should get an anime?

Mwhahaha hhahahaahaha as if you have to ask! Fate/Apocrypha! If they do it, it’s got to be Ufotable and they better have Kikuko Inoue as Assassin of the Red.

8.What is your favorite archetype and who does the best version of it?

My favorite archtype is the Anti-Hero. I’d say that one of the best Anti-Heroes in my opinion would have to be Kiritsugu Emiya. He’s at heart a good person and his wife and daughter loved him to bits but when goes Magus Killer…well there’s a reason that Eiznberns are extinct in Fate/Kaleid.

9.What do in your spare time, when you are not blogging?

It’s mostly reading for pleasure or studying. I’m trying to get a girlfriend but I’m painfully shy with girls so I make myself look like an idiot. Ah being Deven is suffering.

10.What do you look forward to most this year?

Probably getting to my summer job. I plan on saving the cash so I can keep as much of my financial aid as possible to buy a new computer.

11.What is your definition of Moe? (I really couldn’t think of an 11th one)

Moe is just cuteness embodied into a human form. See pretty much any character voiced by Kana Hanazawa or Tia Ballard.

My 11 Random Facts

  1.  I’m 21 years old but I’ve been watching anime since I was around 5.
  2. I wear a scarf outside when it’s warm solely for the style.
  3.  It’s a scarf that my grandmother knitted for me.
  4. I have three unfinished novels that I want to write but never seem to have time for
  5. I’m playing the Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel right now but I’m stalled on Day 11 of the Fate route because things got busy at school and I haven’t gotten back to it.
  6.  Lately I’ve felt really bored for some reason. I’m looking for some fulfillment but nothing seems to bring it.
  7.  I have a short attention span
  8.  I’m somewhat lazy
  9.  I go to bed at around 12 am when I need to get up at 4:30am to get ready to catch my bus to get to school.
  10. I totally ship Shiro x Sella in Fate/Kaleid
  11. 11. People ask me about my sexuality and troll them by saying “I’m tired of hiding who I am. I need to admit what I really am. I am…straight.” Hahaha I love doing that.

Now it’s time for my 11 questions:

1. What was your first anime?
2. What’s your favorite genre of anime?
3. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
4. What are you going to be watching this Spring 2015
5. Is there any manga or anime that you watch/read that you wish more people knew about?
6. What do you do when you aren’t blogging?
7. What’s your favorite idol anime?
8. Who’s your favorite voice actor(English, Japanese, or both)
9. Why did you decide to start a blog?
10. What’s your favorite food?
11. What kind of anime merchandise do you collect?

Finally who to nominate…be right back….Do you know how hard it is to find someone with less than 200 followers after you’ve been blogging for a year! I can only do 5.

  1. TsuuMia Lolis and Magical Girls
  2. Seiyuuri
  3. The SkyCorps Blog (This is exactly how I got in on this. Nick you can’t escape. You have two blogs so you’ll do it for both 😛 )
  4. F.U.U.K.O
  5. Ramen Soup Reviews

And that’s my five. And again I’d like to that Joe from The Reviewer’s Corner for nominating me.

So until my next post,
Later Days

You can ask me as many questions as you want on Ask.fm and you can follow me on Twitter to know when my new reviews are coming out. You’ll know when stuff comes out right when it does! 🙂

Update: I Think I Want to Do Something for Myself and the Blog

I’ve been really thinking of some stuff. Money’s tight…well not super tight at my place. We have money to get me back and forth to school and cash to eat and pay bills. And that’s all I should really ask for right?

I admit that it might be selfish of me to want more. After all my Needs are taken care of. Is it right to have Wants when my Needs are taken care of?

I’d like to think it’s okay. After all over the course of a month I go to school five days a week for at least three hours, write papers for school, write at least 12 reviews per month, side posts on the blog, manage my Twitter, look for a job, write my book, keep up with family and old friends, cook, and do chores. I rarely get to sleep before 11 and I still feel like I haven’t made a dent into the stuff that I want to do.

While my mother and my family taught me that it’s okay to be happy, I always thought that it was important to sacrifice a bit of yourself to be there for others. I always thought that I had a responsibility to others before myself. However I’m starting to wonder if that’s okay. After all, I’m not saying I’m suffering but I do give up a lot of stuff that I want to do to please others.

For example I want a new computer and a new tablet so I can restart my Love Live School Idol Festival posts as well as restart my Fuuka and Fairy Tail Zero reviews. I also want a 3DS so I can play Pokemon and Bravely Default to relax after a long day. However everytime I think of getting these things, I feel like I’m being selfish to others like my mother who need me.

But despite that, I want to do a few small things for myself. So I’ve been thinking of trying to do affliates on the blog again.

I think that the main reason it failed the last time is that I was trying to push people to buy by making specific posts for it. That in my opinion was bad and stupid.

Also I believe that I was going for the wrong product. Not to offend anyone but if you want to pay for a DVD/BD, you would but it’s just easier to download it. Why pay for something when you can get it for free?

So that’s why I signed up with PlayAsia.com again. And this time I’m going to be working with something that’s both cheaper and a bit more effective in pitching.

I’ll be pitching iTunes and Google Play giftcards as well as Nendoroids. I thought about it and realized that it would be easier to buy a $10, $15, or $25 iTunes or Google Play than a $50 DVD. And plus I’m more pandering to the Love Live School Idol Festival players who occasionally buy Love Gems.

As for the Nendoroids I actually got the idea from watching CuriousCloudy’s Fan Hauls on Youtube. Nendoroids are collectable and very cute and a lot of them are less than $50 on PlayAsia. So it’s pretty easy to work with.

So that’s my decision. Some of the posts like the ones for the Fate series, Date A Live, and Love Live will be pitching Nendoroids while the other posts will be pitching iTunes and Google Play cards.

Before I end off the posts, I just want to say that all of this isn’t just a ploy to milk you of your money. The lion’s share of the money that this would make would go to the blog and if there’s anything left, I’d use it for myself or probably give it to SkyCorps for either blog maintainence or whatever he wants to do with it.

To be fair he deserves it. AnimeWithSky is nearly at 90,000 hits and hasn’t even been a year yet. I personally think we’ll hit 100K either a little before the year anniversary or a few weeks after. He’s a great Head Author and Admin.

Also I won’t be posting any affiliate links on AnimeWithSky. Like I’ve said a few times, I respect him too much to do that.

So I think that’s it.

Until another update or something else,

School Days First Week

I had to make this joke! Granted I haven’t any prospects or none of the girls I have talked tried to kill me yet.

Anyway…I’m here taking a leaf out of my good friend Nick SkyCorps’ book. I’m going to be blogging about my school experiences.

Why? Mostly because I can and I feel that at least saying something makes it better. And besides you can laugh at my pain.

It’s going to be a monthly series since unlike Nick, I go to school everyday instead of once a week. However this first one is just going to be about the first week.

So Monday…

Monday wasn’t very hard but in a way it was. See I did all my admissions work right before Christmas Break. So when I applied for my financial aid, it didn’t come until after Christmas so I couldn’t register for any of my classes until the first day of classes. Darn them.

Monday

Anyway so the morning of the 12th, I woke up, got dressed, and tried to go to the school but the bus pass that my cousin gave me didn’t work. So I had to get off and grab another bus pass an d use that one to get to school. That’s when it got hard.

Now if you all remember I’ve been out of school for two years since I graduated high school so I’m a little rusty. As a result, I got a suckish score on Math and they put me in a Development Course. I tried to test out of it on Monday but my score wasn’t high enough and I ended up in the exact same class… Studying doesn’t work…

Oh I forgot! Because it was the first few days of class everyone was rushing to get things settled. So I had to wait for like a hour to get all of my stuff together. By the time I got in line to take the test, got my recommendation for my classes, and got out of there it was already 4 in the afternoon. Then it took me two hours to register. Mostly because most of the classes were taken.

Note: When in college, register early. You’ll get the classes you want rather than the ones that are left over.

So by the time I finished registering and getting my books it was 7. I slugged home and got into bed to go to school the next morning.

Tuesday

So the next morning, I had two classes, English 101 and Computer Cabling. English was fairly fun and interesting. The professor has a good sense of humor. However Cabling was tough. You know that feeling when someone says something and you heard it but you have no idea what it means. That was me in Cabling.

So I dropped it and returned the book. No regrets…until later.

Wednesday

So I had to wake up at the crack of dawn to get to my first class, Math. And that was pretty good. And there are some cute girls in Math. Next up I was Computer Literacy and Applications but I got lost…and the class was right down the hall.

Computer Literacy was really interesting especially since stuff like this is what I want to go into.

Finally I had Overview for College Success and it was pretty much class that helps you transtion to being a college student.

Thursday

I only had English that time but the real issue was what I learned. Turns out that by dropping that class, my credit hours went down from 14 to 11. That meant that my financial aid took a hit and now I owed the school $18. Not much right.

But I was wondering ‘Pay the money’ or ‘take another class’ I chose to take Intro to Psychology and I’m happy to say that I got the last spot open!

Note: It might seem that I’m not going to be able to get that new computer this semester. It seems like everything was there to take away my precious money. I might be able to get it next year but I’m not sure.

Friday

Once again I had to get on the bus in freezing cold at 6am to get to the bus. I had Math and it was all I needed to do that day.

So that was my first week. I had to say that I was really shy on the first few days. Mostly because I was scared out of my mind. However as the days went on, I start to crack a few jokes which is more like me.

It’s going to be a long time before I can get my degree but I know that I can get it if I keep at it. As for the social side of college, I’m going to try and get into that more. That’s something I really regretted that I didn’t do in high school.

There’s no need to worry. Posts will come down on time. All of my classes are in the morning so that leaves my afternoons and evenings free to write.

Well I think that’s it.

Until next month’s School Days,
