That ending! Lisa you genius! I love this lady!
So the episode opens up with Shiro finding out that the bread he bought has been stolen and replaced with three 100 yen coins. Nice thief.
So Shiro goes over to where Rin is staying and it looks like she’s a late riser.
Too cute! Oh Rin! And she’s wearing kitty pajamas! Also she still isn’t up but then again Shiro wakes before Sakura gets there to make breakfast. And Sakura gets there before school starts…let’s see. School for them starts at 7 so Sakura could be there any time between 5 and 6 in the morning.
Wow they’re early risers. On the other hand, Rin while not late for school isn’t getting there with time to spare.
After a quick talk with Saber, Rin arrives for breakfast and tells them she and him are going out on a date.
Oh it’s a date. That’s cute.
Calm down bro. It ain’t that big a deal. I don’t know how you managed to romance Saber in Fate if you’re so scared of going out on a date.
So after the opening we see Taiga teasing Shiro about going on a date with Rin and all. She’d tease him more but she’s got a date herself.
I think she learned to drive from Haruka from FLCL…
Anyway the girls and Shiro take the bus over to the next town. Rin tries to get Shiro or Saber to figure out what they’re going to be doing but they aren’t really coming forth with ideas. Mainly because Shiro’s being all tsundere on Rin and Saber is just doing guard duty.
So Rin’s doing all the choosing and the first place they go is a cafe.
Then we get a montage of the three of them walking around and having a good time.
After they end up in a glasses store so of course they’re going for the glasses look.
Cute and intellectual! My favorite type.
Look it’s Harry Potter. We can expect great things from you Mr. Emiya. That’s a quote from the first Harry Potter movie.
So after the glasses shop Rin teases Shiro about his Harry Potter ish looks after that to go to the batting cages.
Wow she’s good. Forget the Grail War maybe you can play for a woman’s baseball team. I wonder why there isn’t a professional woman’s baseball league.
Anyway after Shiro is in awe of Rin’s batting skills, we turn to Saber.
Saber, sweetie. It’s a bat not a sword.
After they leave the batting cages, Shiro compliments Rin on her hitting ability and asks does she do push ups or something.
Ufotable doing a girl blushing? I’m shocked! But it’s so cute so I can get over it quickly.
So after that we go to the park with our lovable threesome…if this is the Good End then it would be a real threesome.
Then we see this gem.
Good work Ufotable! So cute! I never thought that I’d be saying that Ufotable.
Turns out that Rin was the one that stole the bread. And so the Legendary Bread Mystery is over.
Wow. Beautiful, smart, powerful, fit, and she can cook. You’ve got yourself a good catch Shiro. Only one better is Sakura but you know all the worms and the emotional issues.
So they start eating and Rin continues with her incredibly cute teasing. It’s really cute but you wnat’s funnier. All while this is happening Saber’s just chomping down on sandwiches.
Saber is the sterotypical third wheel in this. Sad…
After all this positiveness and cuteness from this threesome, we have to go to Taiga’s date.
Now this is a Ufotable exclusive scene but it’s also canon. It’s kinda sad and sweet at the same time.
Note: When Kiritsugu was alive he had a friend named Shirley. She was his first love. She had personality similar to Taiga. Look at Fate/Zero they look pretty much the same. Anyway when Taiga and Kiritsugu met after the 4th Grail War, he doted on her because she was so similar to Shirley. However she liked him but after getting Irisivel and Maiya killed as well as burning down an entire district of the city the last thing he wanted was a relationship.
After talking to Kiritsugu’s grave we see someone show up.
Maybe it’s a salesperson…aw who am I kidding? It’s Caster! Wow she’s good looking. Just wish we could see her face.
I know Caster’s evil and manipulative but when see her I see this.
I love this. It’s so funny. Also Atsuko Tanaka(Caster’s Seiyuu) well known for doing very sexy characters and voices, doing moe Caster. It’s so freaking cute!
So we move on to Shiro, Saber, and Rin gettting on the bus to get back to Fuyuki. However something’s amiss.
And we’re on the ghost bus….ooooh.
So the bus gets blown open and it turns out that’s it’s Caster!
Turns out our group is in Caster’s bounded field. Wait a second. I thought that Bounded Fields were just like locking down a place or acting as a alarm system.
Note:Caster as a Mage from the Age of the Gods is more powerful than your average modern mage. Mostly because magecraft back then was so much more powerful.
So Caster comes in with her hostage.
Darn you Caster!
So what are you going to do Shiro? Are you going to join Caster?
However Caster tries to hit a nerve by mentioning his past with Kiritsugu and how his life was so screwed up the Grail. She offers the Grail up to Shiro saying that she can make it appear early but it should be impossible to pull that off. However Caster is a crafty and smart Mage. Few things are impossible for her magically.
However Shiro ain’t taking up the deal but calling Caster a witch is the dumbest thing he can do.
And now she’s going to blast him to ashes. Wait what’s this?
Dude don’t! If you do that then she’ll have Saber! Saber is the only thing that holding Caster back from running train on everyone.
Note: Like I said, Saber has Magic Resistance and it’s higher than usual because of her Dragon Blood. As a result Caster can’t even touch Saber even with her broken level magic. However having her as a Servant means that her biggest obstacle is been destroyed
So Saber jumps into the battle against Caster but Shiro uses a Command Spell to make her stop.
And that gives Caster the chance to use her Noble Phantasm, Rule Breaker.
And with that Caster has broken the contract between Saber and Shiro. Saber belongs to Caster now. And you know what the first thing she’s going to do…
She’s going after Rin!
There’s no way to win this fight.
Oh Saber…
Thanks for coming through Archer but a bit too late!
So with Archer breaking through the Bounded Field, Shiro and Rin manage to escape, leaving Saber with Caster…
I love Unlimited Blade Works but my favorite heroine is always going to be Saber. For the first time, Saber actually has friends that care about her and friends that she doesn’t have to hide her gender with. She can be herself. And now she’s with a crazy lady. Anyone would be sad.
So after they escape, they head over to Rin’s place to patch up Shiro as well as discuss the results of the battle and Archer’s memories and reactions to Saber’s capture.
Note: Shiro’s injuries aren’t healing anymore because he lacks the connection to Saber. Remember he has Saber’s final Noble Phantasm, Avalon, inside him and it gives him a healing factor as long as Saber is his Servant
Side Note: This one is going to be a spoiler. Archer does remember everything and he has met Saber before. They knew each very well. They had a relationship almost as close as Saber and Shiro have now. If you know what I mean.
So after Rin and Archer’s conversation, Shiro finally wakes up. However without Saber’s healing, he’s sluggish and trips.
And he finds this.
You remember this. It’s the necklace that Rin used to save Shiro the day he got attacked by Lancer. Now Shiro realizes that Rin is the one that saved him that day.
And that necklace is going to be the key in this route.
And with that we switch to Caster and Assassin talking about his continuing protection of the gate. However when he gets a little too mouthy Caster does the following.
And then he just gets up like nothing!
This is my favorite form of this scene though.
Now isn’t that funnier.
And with that Caster takes flight to the Kotomine Church where Caster has herself a good talk with Kotomine.
If you didn’t already know Caster is the figure from Greek Mythology, Medea. And apparently her true name is a sore spot.
And with that Caster drives Kotomine out of the church but hey he can still fight like a badass!
After that we switch over to Shiro struggling to find Rin. He manages to find her on the top of a roof.
He tries to fight alongside her to save Saber but the way he is and without any power he’d just hold her back.
There’s nothing that Shiro can do. It’s all up to Rin to win the war.
And Rin jumps off the building and Archer catches her as they head off to fight Caster alone, leaving Shiro on the top of the building.
And with that the first part of Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works is over.
Too hype but there’s one thing I want to talk about.
In the Visual Novel the main theme is a song called This Illusion and when the Studio DEEN version came out it was remixed into Disillusion. So the only way to end this version of Fate/Stay Night is with the thing that started it off for everyone. But with a new twist! LiSA is singing This Illusion. It sounds so good!
I’m giving Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works a 10 out of 10! Great voice acting, beautiful visuals, and excellent plot.
The only thing that makes me sad that we won’t get any more Fate stuff until April. Oh April where are you?
Until the next season,
