The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato-chan With Funimation: The Keys to Success!

Hey everyone! It’s Deven Luca and I’m here with some news. I was just relaxing and checking Twitter this Sunday morning and found out that Funimation has the rights to The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato-chan.

Then when I looked it up I found that the original company that had it, Kadokawa Pictures USA, gave the rights and licenses to the series to Funimation some time ago.

How did I miss this? I guess it’s easy to forget about it when there’s nothing coming around about the series.

Anyway I’m here to talk about Funimation’s keys to success in terms of the dub of the series.

Now back when Haruhi Suzumiya first came out, people loved for its characters, setting, and its voice cast both in English and Japanese.

For those of you that don’t remember here’s a little reminder of the English voice cast:

Haruhi Suzumiya:Wendee Lee
Kyon: Crispin Freeman
Yuki Nagato: Michelle Ruff
Mikuru Asahina: Stephanie Sheh
Itsuki Koizumi: Johnny Yong Bosch

All pretty much All-Stars on the West Coast.

That brings me to the First Key: Bring in the original cast.

Come on. I don’t care if you’ve got to sell off the building but do it!

A big reason why I watch Haruhi Suzumiya in English because of the voice cast. The last thing I want is for them to be replaced.

Granted Funimation is known for at least trying to keep with the old voice actors of a series if they get the rights of a series or a video game.

The biggest example I can think of off the top of my head is Hyperspace Neptunia where they got a hefty chuck of the video game cast for the dub. They didn’t get them all but hey they got close.

Now the Second Key: Wait until the series is over to dub it.

Don’t broadcast dub it. Granted I don’t know how Funimation is doing the Broadcast Dubs but it looks like they’re dubbing them the second they get them. If they bring in the original cast that would mean having them flying out from Los Angeles to Dallas nearly every week. That’s a lot of cash.

It’d be best for them to wait until the end so the original cast can do the entire anime in one visit instead of having to fly back and forth.

Finally the Third Key: Good casting.

If by some dark and horrible tragedy, Funimation can’t or won’t use the original cast they better use some All-Stars on their list for the dub.

Here’s my thoughts for a cast solely from Funimation:

Haruhi Suzumiya: Alexis Tipton
Alexis Tipton’s got a lot of energy and knows how to use it. She’d be an awesome Haruhi

Kyon: Joel McDonald
I was struggling with this one because while Kyon is really logical. He’s also kinda funny. If necessary I’d switch him with my choice for Koizumi’s voice actor

Yuki Nagato: Brittney Karbowski
I was going to have Brittney as Haruhi but she does the whole monotone thing very well. So I had to choose her as Yuki.

Mikuru Asahina: Tia Ballard
When you need moe, you better have Tia Ballard on speed dial. She does childish cute voices so well it’s beautiful.

Itsuki Koizumi: J. Micheal Tatum
If you’re at Funimation and you need some smart and sophisticated, Tatum is your choice

And for a bonus, you know me. If I’m making a cast Monica Rial’s got to be somewhere in it.

Ryoko Asakura: Monica Rial
Granted she doesn’t go all crazy in Yuki Nagato-chan but after Deadman Wonderland, she’s mastered crazy

And that’s all for me on this issue. Personally I would love if they brought back the original cast but if they can’t, they better pull out all the stops on the dub.

Let’s Look:Isuca Episode 9: Sakuya’s Grandma Can’t Be This Cute

One more episode until the finale…although I’m writing this after I’ve seen the finale so it’s kinda of a moot point. No hype is left…

Side Note: Like the Oreimo reference

So we open up with Isuca in some type of tank getting healed. You remember those tanks from Dragonball Z where if you just sat in them for some time you’d be alright it’s probably like that.

So Isuca’s ticked off that she lost to Sakuya and she swears to kill her.

So after the opening we have this.

Alright who brought the marshmellows? Nobody? Selfish?

So we go to the group back at Sakuya’s house and Nadeshiko explains that four churches have been burned down over the last few nights but that’s the biggest problem.

Meaning that whoever did this trying to weaken the city spiritually so something can be done. Is it Isuca? Nah it’s that guy that was healing.

Whatever it is that they said, it ticks Sakuya off. She’s probably suspecting what I’m thinking. That Isuca is her sister!

Cue Dramatic music

After all the odds of someone having the same true name as you is low as throwing a rock off a bridge and having it land in a cup in a boat. It’s technically possible but highly unlikely.

Or for an analogy that others can understand. It’s the same thing has being able to get a 5 IV Shiny Latias with Hidden Power Fire. It’s technically possibility but so rare it’s impossible without help.

So Sakuya leaves and goes to the archery range to practice. Of course Shin goes to see what’s up and gets this for his trouble.

That’s why you don’t mess with someone that’s using a bow.

So Shin’s wondering if Isuca’s having an effect on Sakuya. Will she release the seal on the bow again to beat her?

We don’t know yet. So we go to the next day and Shin meets up with Suseri and goes up with her.

And while they walk home, Shin asks Suseri about the true name thing and the odds that someone can have the same true name as another person.

But the odds that two people will connect to the same name are odd.

So we get back home and everyone’s getting ready to defend the last church. If this one falls Yokohama is going to be spiritually defenseless. Who know what will happen? Evil monsters getting through? Magic beyond limits being cast?

So we need all hands on deck…except Sakuya. She’s on back up. She’s too emotionally involved in this to make a good decision plus her Spirit Bow is out of the game.

So Tamako will take the raid position while Suseri and Shin are on offense. Let’s hope that they can get a win.

But Sakuya’s against it. Mostly because she’s scared that he’ll die. She definitely felt how mortal he was back in the subway with the smoke spirit. But Shin manages to reassure her.

So we move to the church where we get Isuca and we see that her arm’s back.

The team tries to beat Isuca but no dice. Isuca gets the drop on Shin and gives him a bite while the church is burned down.

Now Yokohama is wide open for attack. Who’s going to make their move?

So the next day we get this little girl at the door.

Aw ain’t she cute? I can just fold her up in my pocket and keep her there.

Eh? EEEEH? How?! She looks like she’s in middle school at the latest?! How damn it! How!?

So why is she here other than to troll the crap out of everyone that doesn’t know about this?

Oh that’s easy.

But at least she understands why she acted the way she did since they’re facing the Asahina.

Asahina…Suzuka? They’re fighting the characters from the Suzuka manga? Yeah…I know bad joke. Let’s get back to it then.

But the main reason why Sakuya’s so troubled…the Asahina are her father’s family.

So after Nami the Grandma Loli the group throws around the idea that Isuca isn’t a human but a homoculus. It’s a type of human made by alchemy and it’s the speciality of the Asahina family.

Apparently everyone was thinking that just because Sakuya’s father married in Shimazu things would be all cool and nice. Wrong. He just was bidding his time…for pure evil!

Anyway it gets to the point that Sakuya wants to know about her parents. The truth is too much for Sakuya to know.

But Sakuya’s grandma takes Shin to talk about things. They talk about if Shin is willing to stick with Sakuya even though it’d hard and getting harder every day. Of course he says yeah.

Aw this sounds like a grandma talking to her future grandson in law.

We need some excitment.

Killed the Loli! You bastards!

Damn it Shin! Can’t do anything right! Protect the Loli at all costs!

So now Isuca’s killed Nami it’s time to do a summoning.

Well…that’s a big snake.

Looks like they destroyed all the churchs in Yokohama just so Isuca could summon this thing.

Now it’s getting serious and the battle against the snake ain’t going good for Nadeshiko, Suseri, Matsuri, and Tamako.

At the same time, it’s Sakuya vs. Isuca!

Apparently Nami’s alive. That loli body is just a puppet body. Thank God the Loli’s safe!

But now it’s the final battle between Sakuya and Isuca and things aren’t going well for Sakuya.

And the episode ends with this.

Well yeah…I wouldn’t say I lost interest but I’m not that motivated. I’m more eager for the Spring Season to start but I’ll stick to the end of this series and deliver the final review.

Let’s Look: Fairy Tail 2nd Series Episode 51: Absolute Nightmare: Feel Free to Scream

Okay I’ve got my hot tea with lemon, cough drops, and some hot water with salt.

Why? Because you will be screaming all through this episode.

We see Ichiya of Blue Pegasus spill his new perfume into the sewers of Magnolia.

And it does this to the population of Magnolia.

Aaaaah Aaah!!! Those bastards changed changed Princess Hisui! Evil! They must be stopped!

My mind hurts! But this isn’t the true pain!

My soul is hurting right now…Mirajane, Erza, Levy…

Knock Hiro Mashima for anything else but one thing he got right was the ladies of Fairy Tail are attractive. Don’t take away their beauty!

So while everyone’s getting infected by pure darkness Lucy, Natsu, and Happy manage to get away into the sewers. However Gajeel and Lily find them.

We’re the ones that are suffering. So Lucy and the group run away but apparently Gajeel and Lily can’t smell Lucy probably because of this.

Erza does bunny suit better. So Natsu and Happy hide inside Lucy’s bunny suit and that goes as expected.

Of course the suit rips and they run out of the sewers and meet up with Wendy and Carla who tell them that Natsu has the secret to save everyone from this evil.

Then Natsu remembers that Erza gave him an odor removing lacrima to which goes back to the guild to steal it back even while Laxus is trying to kill him. They all return to normal with Natsu’s help.

And with that the episode’s over.

Strangely I liked it. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. I screamed a lot.

But let’s get serious. Next up is the return to the canon material! The beginning of the Sun Village arc! The beginning of the Tartarus Sage!

But that’s for next week. And to celebrate I’m going to have the episode in 1080p! I’m so hyped!

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 11: Two For the Price of One

Great episode. Twofer! And we get a lot more Shiina! Prepare yourselves for the finale next week!

So we start off with this.

Did Ryo become a vampire? What’s with the cloak? And the bowl of ramen? You’re a bad vampire if you eat ramen instead of blood Ryo-chan.

So we’re down to the wire with Ryo. The high school entrance exam is next month in March. She’s studying all out but then…

Ah drowning in work.

It’s the worst monster of all! Learning!

So it turns out that it was just a dream. After seeing that she fell asleep, Ryo decides to take a break. She sees something, not sure if it’s a commercial or a TV show, where a mom gives her daughter a late night snack after studying for exams.

Wow that was incredibly convenient…

She agrees. After that Ryo starts think about her parents and the fact that they’re still overseas. I’m still on the fact that they sent her Japanese rice when she’s in Japan! Japanese rice in Japan is like Chinese food in China. It doesn’t have any novelty to it.

Anyway seeing the girl and her mom on TV makes Ryo hungry for some rice balls. I always wanted to try these. I’ve got a new rice cooker so I’m thinking of making them myself. I’ll post a picture on Twitter when I do!

So while she’s making the rice balls, two things come to the door, Kirin and a package from her mom.

Eh? Is that ramen? Do they realize that she’s in Japan and can get ramen any time she wants?

You know where she can get some Japanese ramen…from a store down the street!

So Kirin’s making the jump! Looks like ramen for dinner!

What? So Ryo explains that it’s going to be their late night study snack and she gets this big smile on her face while Kirin looks like this.

She’s probably thinking what heck is she talking about? I want that ramen now!

So we see the girls studying again and while they study Kirin takes a look over at Ryo’s notes.

Get on the job Ryo! You can’t get into high school with your cooking skills and your good looks.

So when Kirin asks about Ryo’s parents, Kirin has a flashbacak about her asking her mother about Ryo’s parents…no one not one person in this anime gives a straight answer about what they do.

What do they do damn it?! Quit being so secretive!

So anyone Kirin’s mother then says that Ryo’s parents once tried to hire her a bodyguard.

Cue Kirin’s imagination…

She could work for Pixar and Disney. She could make something waaaaayyy better than Frozen 2. Let that movie go. Let go! I don’t wanna see anymore! Let go!

But that ain’t flying for Kirin. If you want something done right…

Sounds cool but looks like this…

I love when stuff like this happens.

So after that Kirin asks Ryo if she wants to take a break. So when comes to making the snack it’s Kirin.

Hmm I wonder how she’s going to do it?

She didn’t take a long time.

Maybe she took longer than I thought. So Kirin goes to wake Ryo up so they can eat. But when Ryo wakes up who does she see?

 

Aww…she may say that she’s fine but she still wants to see her parents.

Aww the feels right in the heart!

So once Ryo fully wakes up she explains her dream…it doesn’t even make sense so Kirin says they should try and eat and talk.

I’m really going to miss this anime. Sexy eating never looked so sexy.

So after dinner, Ryo apologizes for blurting all that stuff. She says that she can’t say that she’s never lonely but she isn’t terribly lonely.

Confused? So am I.

Anyway despite being a bit lonely, Ryo says with the package from her parents and Kirin cooking for her, she couldn’t be happier.

So while the two of them are cleaning up after dinner, Kirin finds this.

So Ryo’s mother wrote Kirin a letter and snuck it into the box of ramen. Nice.

So after reading the letter, Kirin asked Ryo what her parents’ jobs are…

What do they do damn it?!

So we move into part two. We have Ryo, Kirin and you guess it, Shiina! Finally after so many episodes of her just getting passing references, she’s here!

Anyway our three girls are at the shrine praying for success. Why? Because the exams for high school are next week!

Crunch time on the highest level!

That’s good what about Shiina?

Poor girl must have forgotten she lived in a mansion with massive grounds and a maid.

Sounds good but still sounds greedy. So when Kirin says if she makes wishes like that she won’t get into high school, Shiina says that she doesn’t need to worry about that.

When everyone gets confused, Shiina explains. She’s already in the school! She’s passed already?!

EH?!

What’s your thoughts, girls?

Someone’s got to meme this.

Anyway so Shiina explains that even though she got in early she didn’t a free ride. She still had to take all the exams and do all the paperwork that Kirin and Ryo will have to do. So basically it’s just advance testing.

So sweet…now do a big yuri kiss please.

So Kirin tries to jump in and says congrats too. So the girls go to the gift shop and get some good luck charms. Just a few…

It’s just a few. So while they’re walking out, Kirin asks for any tips on the exam but Shiina says this.

She’s right. In that test it’s all down to you, that pencil, and whatever’s in your head. No one else can help you.

I get this same thing but it’s darkness and I’m laughing evilly right after. Mwhahaha. It’s so stress relieving.

So while trying to get over Shiina not giving any hints, Kirin and Ryo keep rubbing her trying to get her good luck. Nice try! Shiina’s got Good Luck Rank EX. You guys can’t steal it!

Then it’s time for lunch and Shiina’s got it covered!

We all know what’s going to happen. Kirin’s like a five year with some cookies. Willpower will crumble and you will eat.

Everyone’s got a price.

So after that the girls dig in.

So cute…

I always love when I see people looking from the outside. It’s hilarious.

After that Shiina comments that Tsukuyo’s been making these for a while. Just so you know these are called Katsu Sandwiches. The name is a pun on cutlet’s Japanese pronouncitation and Katsu for victory.

So why has Tsuyuko been making these so often?

Aww she really does care about her charge.

Anyway Shiina explains that she ate these sandwiches on the day of her exam and she felt that she wasn’t alone because it felt like Tsuyuko was with her.

After that Shiina apologizes for being so cold to them and allows them to ask any questions they want. So Ryo asks where the toilet is in the exam hall. Clever. First thing I’d do.

Now check this out.

Hmm they live in Tokyo. Love Live is set in a certain district of Tokyo near Akibahara…this is that shrine that Nozomi Tojou works at. It’s called the Kanada Myoujin Shrine.

Anyway we move to the day of the exam. Ryo and Kirin head to the train station to go to the high school.

Shiina meets them there and gives them a lunch to eat.

And with that Shiina wishes them good luck and the episode ends with that.

Now that’s a ride. I can’t wait until the finale this week. How has been Koufuku Graffiti been treating you? Have you been loving it as much as I have?

It’s a pity that it has to end but it’s the only way to get to the Spring Season.

Let’s Look: Fairy Tail 2nd Series Episode 50: One More Episode…

Just one more episode to suffer through, then back to the good stuff. If you’re an anime only viewer, you’re in for some good stuff. If you read the manga, you know the epicness that I’m talking about…

So we start with Laxus and and the Raijin-Shuu are taking a job to the village of Borwatt. They’ve got a problem. What? What is that problem?

Ah I see why they wanted Laxus specifically. After all you send a Lightning Dragon Slayer to deal with lightning right.

Anyway Laxus uses Lightning Dragon’s Roar and disperses the thunderclouds. It works but it’s only going to be a temporary solution.

So with the lightning and the clouds gone for a moment, the townsfolk come out and thank them. All the girls get all hot and bothered by Laxus. That’s him. Making girls swoone in their sleep.

After that the mayor takes them up to the mayoral mansion and his entire self changes. He explains that it’s Laxus’s fault that the town is like this. Turns out that before the Grand Magic Games, Laxus passed through the town, got into a fight, and released a massive amount of electricity.

Poor fools didn’t even have a chance…

Anyway being the good guy that he is, Laxus goes to solve the problem that he created. However something seems up with that mayor and Evergreen thinks so too.

They go back into the village where the thunderclouds have come back and now there are some strange lightning creatures on the ground. They don’t stand much of a chance against Laxus or any of them really.

Laxus and Freed see that there’s a massive amount of electricity coming from undergroud. They check out the sewer system and find a ball of Laxus’s electricity under there. Laxus absorbs again and they find a lacrima that was storing it there.

Turns out that the mayor did all of this on purpose to try and extort money out of Fairy Tail. Nice try man. With all the damages they’ve got they can barely pay the rent some months.

Anyway Laxus goes over to the mayor’s mansion to kick his butt then his grandkid comes out and Laxus sees that he can protect something and leaves.

And the episode ends with the group heading home without any payment.

Just one more episode….please let this next one be quick!

Kinda disappointed. I wanted it to be Evergreen but Yukino’s good too. She’s easily the sexy member of Sabertooth. It’s kinda hard not to be since she’s the only female member…you’ll see what I mean in the Sun Village arc.

First Impression: The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato-chan

Nagato Yuki, the shy president of the literature club, has never been very sure of herself around other people. But around Kyon, the only boy in the tiny, three-person club, Yuki finds herself faltering even more than usual. For Kyon, and for her precious club, Yuki must find her confidence and let her true personality shine!

 

Inner Writer: Let’s see…Unlimited Blade Works, Danmachi, and Fairy Tail? You’ve done the First Impressions for the new ones. Why are you doing another First Impression?

Deven: It’s time to go beyond my limits! Let’s go

Inner Writer: No idea what you mean but I’ll go along with it.

So you’ve clearly seen that I’ve got a fourth anime that I’ll be reviewing this Spring Season. Now if you’ve been with me since the beginning you would know that when I started I had six anime on my list.

I had Date A Live 2, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, Isshuukan Friends, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei, Love Live School Idol Project 2nd Season, Fairy Tail 2nd Series, and Akuma no Riddle. As you can see I had a lot on my plate back then.

One by one they all fell until the only ones that I was reviewing at the end were Date A Live 2, Fairy Tail 2nd Series, and Akuma no Riddle. Seeing that I was good and consistant with those, I made my 3 per Season Rule and I’ve stuck to it.

However this season I’ve got an anime that’s too good not to review and that’s The Disappearance of Yuki Nagato-chan!

I mostly picked this one up because of the nostalgia feels and another more important reason…Minori Chihara! Ah Minori Chihara-sama in an anime that I’m reviewing…

Anyway… the other members of the cast back from the old anime back in 2009 returned. Let’s take a look.

Starting off with the best and the main character, Minori Chihara. Let’s see…I know she can pull it off. While I mostly watched Haruhi Suzumiya in English with Michelle Ruff as Yuki I watched the movie in Japanese because I couldn’t find it in English after I finished the series. Ah the perfection of Minori Chihara. Anyway…I know her from Date A Live as Miku Izayoi, OniAi as Anastasia Nasuhara, Rail Wars as Noa Kashima, and Rio: Rainbow Gate as Dana.

Cuter than a button but she’ll punch you for calling her cute, Yuuko Gotou. Apparently she’s a hard drinking biker chick too. Everything I know is lost…she plays such cute roles. You would have never expected this really. I know her from We without Wings as Naru Ootori and Shuffle as Kaede Fuyou. Both very cutesy roles. Does that look like the face of a biker? No I didn’t think so!

Next up is the legendary Daisuke Ono….any introduction I give will be inadequate to his awesomeness. Let’s go to the roles…

I know him from Bleach as Shuukuro Tsukishima, Black Butler as Sebastian Michaelis, and New Prince of Tennis as Kazuya Tokugawa(didn’t even know that until today).

Next up is the seiyuu that likes her bandmates a little too much well except the bassist, Aya Hirano.

Side Note: If you know what I’m talking about, yes, I did make a joke about that. It was there and I went for it.

She is one of my favorite seiyuu and her energy as always been hilarious to me. I mostly saw her as Haruhi in Haruhi Suzumiya but mostly I’ve been seeing her as Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail.

I know her from Death Note as Misa Amane(watched the dub and the sub, both are good), Fairy Tail as Lucy Heartfilia…ummm in Queen’s Blade as Nanael(if you know what I’m talking about yes I watched and it was solely for the fanservice. I looked for no plot whatsoever), and School Rumble as Yoko Sasakura.

No regrets about watching Queen’s Blade…

Finally at least out of the ones that I know(don’t say anything about me not seeing a lot of Tomokazu Sugita. I just haven’t seen a lot of him) is Yuki Matsuoka. Ah the return of Nyoro! That’s what made the Japanese version for me. They had to take out all of Tsuruya’s verbal tics and I loved them. I know her from Bleach as Orihime Inoue, …Maken Ki as Tomika Amato, and Mirai Nikki as Hinata Hino.

So that’s it for all the ones I know anyway. I’m thinking that this Spring Season is going to be awesome!

First Impression: Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka

The huge labyrinth city, Orario, is the gateway to the huge underground maze commonly known as the “Dungeon.” Its strange name causes excitement, a place to gain honor, and maybe even a romance with a pretty girl. A place where people hold their breath, hoping to gain all they wish for, a place where a solitary young man meets a little “god.”

 “Alright, Bell-kun, follow me! It’s time for the “Familiar” initiation rite to happen!”
 “Yes! I’m going to get stronger!”

 The fated meeting of a boy who wants to become an adventurer, and the failed god who doesn’t even have a single follower.

 This boy’s journey as written by the goddess, “Family’s Legend” (Familiar’s Myth)

 

Ah something genius. I needed something that reminded me of Sword Art Online. And here it is! DanMachi! Why? We’ve got Yoshitisugu Matsuoka. Now let’s look at what’s he’s done the last two seasons. Trinity Seven, Saekano, Absolute Duo, and now DanMachi. I think that he’s making a name for himself as a harem hero. I’m not complaining.

Note: I’ve watched a good friend CuriousCloudy’s Review of the manga so I’m going to look at it from that perspective.

So I like this anime or at least what it has the potential to be. It’s supposed to be like a video game like system but it’s actually real life for these characters. I wonder how they keep up with them? Is there are song when they level up?

Anyway…

There’s a good cast in this one and it’s getting clearer and clearer that Yoshitsugu’s got a harem and he’s taking them everywhere he goes.

So our main character is played by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and it’s clear that his character’s going to get a harem. It’s only a matter of time…

Coming off a great success in Saekano, it’s Saori Onishi. She’s been in Mahouka and Saekano in terms of stuff I’ve seen. Looks like she’s only been at the game since 2012. Let’s hope that she does a good job like how she was with Eriri.

We’ve got Maaya Uchida. Ah a good one from last year in my opinion, mostly because she played Kaguya Yamai back in Date A Live 2. I think that she’ll be good at this one.

Ah Kirito’s main girl. It’s Haruka Tomatsu! She’s always seen to be in an anime with Yoshitsugu either as a love interest or just as a side character. Must be luck or fate…

I’m hoping for them to announce the wedding date.

Eh?! Yurika Kubo is playing a bisexual goddess of mischef? Hanayo would be so disappointed. I think that she can really play the cuteness in this role personally.

And finally Yoko Hikasa, another member of the harem I guess since she worked on Trinity Seven. She’ll be the Freya, the goddess of beauty. With a voice like that, it will work.

I’m personally looking forward to this one. I always like video game like anime.

Fate Speculation: Catalysts

Hey everyone it’s Deven Luca and I’m coming at you with a Fate/Stay Night speculation. This time it’s about Cataylsts.

Now as you know in the Holy Grail War you can summon a Servant but you have a large amount of control of which Servant you can call up. I’m here to show what can happen and how it works.

The Cataylsts are the first and most common method. Cataylsts are symbols and holy relics that can be used to attract a specific Heroic Spirit to be summoned. It needs to be something connected to said hero like their swords, armor, a talisman they once wore, or even their bones.

Having a Catalyst has mind blowing advantages to it. And add to the fact that they are actually easy to get. The Mage’s Association in London has been collecting such artifacts for centuries. I’m not saying that they’ll have an artifact for every Heroic Spirit but they’ll have one for most of them.

However there are risks in using a Catalyst. One being is compability. Just because you summon a Heroic Spirit with a Catalyst doesn’t mean that you’ll be happy good friends. There have been major losses in Grail Wars because a mage used a Catalyst but was unable to work well with the summoned Spirit. A big example of this was pretty much all of the Servants in the 4th Grail War.

Saber: Because of Kiritsugu’s style of combat and Saber’s chivarly, Kiritsugu knew that it would be unwise to work with her. So he set up the plan to have her work with Irisviel to throw people of his trail.

Archer: Seriously, Gilgamesh is awesome. However he considered Tokiomi incredibly boring and disagreed with him on a lot of things. So Tokiomi’s big problem was going for power rather than compatibility.

Lancer: Kayneth couldn’t understand Lancer if he had a blueprint. He thought that his Servant was trying to steal his wife. He wasn’t…she came all by herself. Ouch!

Ironically the rest were pretty good with their Masters but particular attention has to go to Rider and Waver Velvet. It’s freaking Broskander! The awesome is always there. And Caster and Ryuunosuke…it’s scary how close they are….

Another bad part of using a Catalyst is your choice of Catalyst ironically. If you choose a Catalyst that has ties to multiple heroes then you might be screwed. Because then the Grail will then choose a hero from that pool of heroes that is most similar to you. The example that series uses is Kairi Sisigou of Fate/Apocrypha. He used a Shard of the Round Table as his Catalyst. He had the potential to get knights like Arturia, Lancelot, or Gawain. He got Mordred who was most similar to him in personality. And it shows. They work together nearly perfectly.

Now I’m going to tell you all of the Catalysts known divided by Series.

Fate/Stay Night:

 

Saber: Avalon, the sheath of Excalibur, found in Cornwall

Lancer: His Rune Stone Earrings used by Bazett

Archer: Rin’s Pendant used by Rin. It’s unique in that the pendant used by Rin is not the Catalyst but the pendant that Archer has is the Cataylst. It’s a case where the hero has a catalyst that connects to the summoner.

Caster: A book from Colchis that mentions Medea often

Rider:A Mirror dug up from a temple in Eritrea, Greece. It’s noted to have a normally poor connection to Medusa. It needed Sakura’s personality to connect to her specifically.

Assassin: The mountain gate. Sasaki Kojiro is a unique case. He is a fictional hero but he is still on the Throne of Heroes so the Grail grabbed everything that was associated with him and created someone that was as close to him as possible.

Berserker: His Axe-sword which was cut out of the rock of the temple of Heracles back in Greece.

Fate/Zero
(Saber need not be mentioned again)

Archer: The fossil of the first snake’s skin and an old key to the Gate of Babylon

Lancer:Unknown

Caster:Not Used

Rider: A shard of cloth from his mantle

Assassin: The word Assassin comes from the name Hassan so the class name Assasin is their catalyst.

Berserker: Unknown but I expect it to be something that had general connections to the Knights of the Round Table. Mostly because Kariya and Lancelot are too similar for it to be specific.

Fate/Apocrypha

Black Team

Saber: A Bloodstained leaf of a Sacred Fig tree which connects to Siegfried

Lancer:Unknown

Archer:An Ancient arrow blackened with blood which connects to Chiron

Caster:Unknown

Rider: A Glass bottle which had a liquid stain left on it which connects to Astolfo

Assassin: Jack the Ripper’s Knives…I don’t even know how they got these

Berserker: Frankenstein’s blueprints which connect to Frankenstein’s Monster…ain’t she a cutie

Red Team

Saber: A Shard of the Round Table. It’s a general catalyst so it summoned Mordred because of her Master’s similar personality. As to why I chose to use her casual look rather than her battle look…look how sexy she is! 

Lancer: Unknown catalyst that connects to Karna

Archer: Unknown catalyst that connects to Atalanta

Caster: Unknown catalyst that connects to Shakespeare. I suspect that they just went out and grabbed any of his plays. It’d be insanely easy.

Rider: Unknown catalyst that connects to Achilles.

Assassin: Unknown catalyst that connects to Semiramis.

Berserker: Unknown catalyst that connects to Spartacus.

And with that’s all the catalysts as well as a good show of what they can do.

First Impressions: Fate Stay/Night: Unlimited Blade Works Season 2

Let me tell you a story. After a legendary ending to one of the most awesome anime of the Fall 2014 Anime Season, we had to wait and suffer until the Winter. We longed…we waited. One day later, people were desperately looking for news only a single day after the end.

However the wait is over! Rejoice!

I had to do it.

So of course we’ve got the cast back from last season and this season is going to be even better.

We ended last season off with Saber being taken by Caster and Shiro basically being up the creek without a paddle while Rin and Archer go off to fight Caster alone. Awesome end right? You know you loved Lisa’s This Illusion.

So what’s up this season. I’m currently playing the Visual Novel but granted I’m only on Day 12 of the Fate route…yeah Shiro’s kinda sexist in the Fate route.

Anyway we’ve got the battle against Caster, we finally find out who the mysterious blond man is, and more importantly we’ll find out what’s the identity of Archer!

There will be beautiful battles, epic wars, and great love between Shiro and Rin. This is what we’re on! Unlimited Blade Works!

So the hype train is gassing up right now and getting ready to leave for Fate Stay/Night: Unlimited Blade Works. Will you be on it or just sit back at the station?
