Koufuku Graffiti

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Finale Episode 12: The Best Meals Are Never Eaten Alone

Aw it’s over. Koufuku Graffiti was a ride and then some. I’m going to miss it but I’m kinda happy that I don’t need to make sure that I ate before I sit down for a reviewing session.

So we start the episode with this.

Snapshot_1

Eh? Aren’t you both worried about getting to high school?

But it turns out that what they’re saying is a play on words in Japanese. What they’re saying is a phrase that’s similar to their numbers on the board to see who got in.

Kirin’s 296 and Ryo’s 530.

Both numbers are up there! That means that they passed!

Alright! One year of hard work paid off!

Snapshot_6

So what is Kirin going to do? She lives like out in Hiroshima. How’s that commute going to work?

From what money that you have?

So after Ryo finishes up a call, the girls look a cherry blossom tree that has its first buds blooming but that’s not the thing you should look at it.

Snapshot_9

You have her in the last episode but that’s it! No Yuuki no Life!

So after the opening, we get this.

So she didn’t tell her parents? What a smart move. Clearly ready for high school right there.

Turns out that Kirin’s just over-exaggerating and it looks like her Dad’s right along with her. He’s going on and how she’s growing up and soon she’ll be graduating, getting a job, and getting married.

I’m not sure anyone would want to touch her like that. She looks like a little girl in a wedding dress. The guy that marries her would look like a lolicon.

Meanwhile Kirin’s mom is snarking that he took Kirin’s side so he shouldn’t be sad.

But Kirin promises that she’ll be back to help in the fields when they need her. Nice but they go all over the top with it.

Being Kirin’s mother is suffering.

Snapshot_17

Then we switch over to Ryo’s who’s getting ready for her last day of school, reminiscing that her uniform used to be all baggy on her and it’s snug.

Snapshot_18

Maybe too snug.

Snapshot_19

Yeah maybe all that heavy eating you’v been doing over the last year had something to do with it.

After managing to stuff herself into her skirt, Ryo prays to her grandma to tell her that she’s leaving for her graduation.

After that Ryo has a small monologue about how things have changed and the meal that her grandma made after her entrance ceremony

Aww that’s so sweet but you what’d be funny? Her stomach growling.

Snapshot_29

Best friends ignore the embarrassing parts of you.

So then Ryo gets called up for her diploma but unfortunately Akira can’t be there so there’s no one to watch her or is there…

Snapshot_30

That was unexpected. So turns out Kirin’s graduation was two days ago so she decided to come to Ryo’s graduation.

So after a little teasing about her growling stomach, Ryo’s friends from school come in and Ryo explains that they passed too so they’ll all be going to the same school.

After that we head home with Kirin and Ryo with them carrying a bit of food for some celebrating!

Unfortunately Kirin forgot her luggage at the station in a coin locker so she goes back to get it leaving Ryo alone to cook.

Snapshot_31

Burglar!

Snapshot_32 Snapshot_33

That’s what you get Akira!

So we go into the house where Akira apologizes for not being there enough for Ryo but says that she’s there when it counts and that’s most important.

And nothing proves that better than this gift.

Snapshot_34

That apron was Ryo’s grandmother. Apparently Ryo’s grandmother expected her death and gave the apron to Akira to give to Ryo when she graduated middle school.

It’s official that Ryo’s grandma is the most awesome lady to ever take care of a child. She knew she was going to die so she took steps to make something for her granddaughter.

So after that Akira’s got to go back to work and after that Ryo jumps into the kitchen to make the best meal that she can with her grandma’s apron!

Snapshot_35

It even has that yellowtail that she made in the first episode but it didn’t taste good to her.

Snapshot_36

I have a feeling that it’s going to be great this time around Ryo.

Once she finishes up, she takes a bit of the yellowtail.

Snapshot_37

So cute but to her it doesn’t taste like the yellowtail her grandma made.

Then Kirin comes in all her stuff.

Snapshot_38

You’re moving in Kirin not conquering the place.

After that it’s time for dinner and while Kirin’s there, Ryo notices that the food tastes so much better with Kirin there.

So after dinner, Ryo explains that her apron is a gift from her grandma that Akira kept. Kirin says that even though her grandma is dead she’s still making memories with her with that apron.

So sweet of you Kirin.

Snapshot_47

So apparently Kirin has a low awesome stat because in the next scene’s already going to sleep while Ryo sends prayers to her grandma, thaking her for the things she’s taught her.

Aww after Kirin talks about eating all of Ryo’s cooking everyday.

Snapshot_48

So the next day Kirin tells Ryo that she’ll be moving in and the movers are going to be there soon.

Snapshot_49

After that we get more Shiina and apparently she knew too…Ryo’s sad. It’s tough to be the only one that didn’t know.

Snapshot_50

And she brought food!

Snapshot_51

So they go outside the girls see that Kirin’s mom and dad are there to help with the move. Akira joins in too but no one even told Ryo that Kirin’s moving in.

When were they going to say something? After Kirin got everything all straighten out in her room?

Despite that Ryo isn’t mad and she’s just happy to be living with Ryo.

And after that we have a montage of some of Ryo’s memories, growing up, and losing her grandma. She was so alone but now her house is so full of people.

That’s so sweet. I love how this anime ends.

And with that Kirin’s mom makes her apparently signature vegetable stir fry and the whole group eats it with Shiina’s sandwiches.

Snapshot_52

Everyone digs in!

As they start eating, Ryo says that she wants to invite Yuuki from downstairs and Kirin goes to join her, saying that she looks forward to living with her.

And with that Koufuku Graffiti ends.

Snapshot_53

My thoughts

Ah the feel good anime of the Winter Anime Season. I loved the entire ride that Koufuku Graffiti took me on. The cuteness, the food, and the interactions of the characters were all spot on.

Only thing I didn’t like was that Yuuki Uchiki was introduced way too late for her to have much impact on the plot. She’s supposed to figure in a lot more during part two of the manga but she’s basically a minor character here. Sad…

So I’m giving Koufuku Graffiti a 9.5 out of 10. This is definitely one of those relax in the warmth and just relax animes. Just make sure you eat before you watch it!

So with that and Isuca Episode 10 being reviewed, my Winter Anime Season is over.

Now it’s time to move onto Spring. I just want to say right now that the reviews for all the season openings will be out on Tuesday or Wednesday mostly because I’m going to get them in 1080p quality and have the pics in PNG form. That takes time but trust me it’s going to be worth the wait.

So until the beginning of the Spring Season,

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 11: Two For the Price of One

Great episode. Twofer! And we get a lot more Shiina! Prepare yourselves for the finale next week!

So we start off with this.

Did Ryo become a vampire? What’s with the cloak? And the bowl of ramen? You’re a bad vampire if you eat ramen instead of blood Ryo-chan.

So we’re down to the wire with Ryo. The high school entrance exam is next month in March. She’s studying all out but then…

Snapshot_6

Ah drowning in work.

Snapshot_7

It’s the worst monster of all! Learning!

So it turns out that it was just a dream. After seeing that she fell asleep, Ryo decides to take a break. She sees something, not sure if it’s a commercial or a TV show, where a mom gives her daughter a late night snack after studying for exams.

Snapshot_10

Wow that was incredibly convenient…

Snapshot_9

She agrees. After that Ryo starts think about her parents and the fact that they’re still overseas. I’m still on the fact that they sent her Japanese rice when she’s in Japan! Japanese rice in Japan is like Chinese food in China. It doesn’t have any novelty to it.

Anyway seeing the girl and her mom on TV makes Ryo hungry for some rice balls. I always wanted to try these. I’ve got a new rice cooker so I’m thinking of making them myself. I’ll post a picture on Twitter when I do!

So while she’s making the rice balls, two things come to the door, Kirin and a package from her mom.

Snapshot_11

Eh? Is that ramen? Do they realize that she’s in Japan and can get ramen any time she wants?

Snapshot_12

You know where she can get some Japanese ramen…from a store down the street!

So Kirin’s making the jump! Looks like ramen for dinner!

Snapshot_13

What? So Ryo explains that it’s going to be their late night study snack and she gets this big smile on her face while Kirin looks like this.

Snapshot_14

She’s probably thinking what heck is she talking about? I want that ramen now!

So we see the girls studying again and while they study Kirin takes a look over at Ryo’s notes.

Snapshot_15

Get on the job Ryo! You can’t get into high school with your cooking skills and your good looks.

So when Kirin asks about Ryo’s parents, Kirin has a flashbacak about her asking her mother about Ryo’s parents…no one not one person in this anime gives a straight answer about what they do.

What do they do damn it?! Quit being so secretive!

So anyone Kirin’s mother then says that Ryo’s parents once tried to hire her a bodyguard.

Cue Kirin’s imagination…

She could work for Pixar and Disney. She could make something waaaaayyy better than Frozen 2. Let that movie go. Let go! I don’t wanna see anymore! Let go!

But that ain’t flying for Kirin. If you want something done right…

Snapshot_20

Sounds cool but looks like this…

Snapshot_21

I love when stuff like this happens.

So after that Kirin asks Ryo if she wants to take a break. So when comes to making the snack it’s Kirin.

Hmm I wonder how she’s going to do it?

Snapshot_22

She didn’t take a long time.

Snapshot_23

Maybe she took longer than I thought. So Kirin goes to wake Ryo up so they can eat. But when Ryo wakes up who does she see?

Snapshot_24

Aww…she may say that she’s fine but she still wants to see her parents.

Aww the feels right in the heart!

So once Ryo fully wakes up she explains her dream…it doesn’t even make sense so Kirin says they should try and eat and talk.

I’m really going to miss this anime. Sexy eating never looked so sexy.

So after dinner, Ryo apologizes for blurting all that stuff. She says that she can’t say that she’s never lonely but she isn’t terribly lonely.

Confused? So am I.

Anyway despite being a bit lonely, Ryo says with the package from her parents and Kirin cooking for her, she couldn’t be happier.

So while the two of them are cleaning up after dinner, Kirin finds this.

Snapshot_37

So Ryo’s mother wrote Kirin a letter and snuck it into the box of ramen. Nice.

So after reading the letter, Kirin asked Ryo what her parents’ jobs are…

What do they do damn it?!

So we move into part two. We have Ryo, Kirin and you guess it, Shiina! Finally after so many episodes of her just getting passing references, she’s here!

Anyway our three girls are at the shrine praying for success. Why? Because the exams for high school are next week!

Crunch time on the highest level!

That’s good what about Shiina?

Snapshot_51

Poor girl must have forgotten she lived in a mansion with massive grounds and a maid.

Sounds good but still sounds greedy. So when Kirin says if she makes wishes like that she won’t get into high school, Shiina says that she doesn’t need to worry about that.

When everyone gets confused, Shiina explains. She’s already in the school! She’s passed already?!

EH?!

What’s your thoughts, girls?

Snapshot_58

Someone’s got to meme this.

Anyway so Shiina explains that even though she got in early she didn’t a free ride. She still had to take all the exams and do all the paperwork that Kirin and Ryo will have to do. So basically it’s just advance testing.

So sweet…now do a big yuri kiss please.

So Kirin tries to jump in and says congrats too. So the girls go to the gift shop and get some good luck charms. Just a few…

Snapshot_61

It’s just a few. So while they’re walking out, Kirin asks for any tips on the exam but Shiina says this.

Snapshot_62

She’s right. In that test it’s all down to you, that pencil, and whatever’s in your head. No one else can help you.

I get this same thing but it’s darkness and I’m laughing evilly right after. Mwhahaha. It’s so stress relieving.

So while trying to get over Shiina not giving any hints, Kirin and Ryo keep rubbing her trying to get her good luck. Nice try! Shiina’s got Good Luck Rank EX. You guys can’t steal it!

Then it’s time for lunch and Shiina’s got it covered!

We all know what’s going to happen. Kirin’s like a five year with some cookies. Willpower will crumble and you will eat.

Snapshot_67

Everyone’s got a price.

So after that the girls dig in.

So cute…

I always love when I see people looking from the outside. It’s hilarious.

After that Shiina comments that Tsukuyo’s been making these for a while. Just so you know these are called Katsu Sandwiches. The name is a pun on cutlet’s Japanese pronouncitation and Katsu for victory.

So why has Tsuyuko been making these so often?

Aww she really does care about her charge.

Anyway Shiina explains that she ate these sandwiches on the day of her exam and she felt that she wasn’t alone because it felt like Tsuyuko was with her.

After that Shiina apologizes for being so cold to them and allows them to ask any questions they want. So Ryo asks where the toilet is in the exam hall. Clever. First thing I’d do.

Now check this out.

Snapshot_81

Hmm they live in Tokyo. Love Live is set in a certain district of Tokyo near Akibahara…this is that shrine that Nozomi Tojou works at. It’s called the Kanada Myoujin Shrine.

Anyway we move to the day of the exam. Ryo and Kirin head to the train station to go to the high school.

Shiina meets them there and gives them a lunch to eat.

And with that Shiina wishes them good luck and the episode ends with that.

Snapshot_82

Now that’s a ride. I can’t wait until the finale this week. How has been Koufuku Graffiti been treating you? Have you been loving it as much as I have?

It’s a pity that it has to end but it’s the only way to get to the Spring Season.

So until the finale of Koufuku Graffiti,

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 10: Neighbor Finally Revealed!

Ah doesn it feel good to finally have a character that hadn’t been introduced yet finally be introduced. Everyone watching Saekano knows what I’m talking about…

That joke is only going to be funny until they finally introduce Michiru. I don’t like jokes with a time limit…

Anyway we start the episode with this.

Anyone think that that cheese looked suggestive? You know the fact that she’s all covered in it…

So after the opening we see our girl for the episode, Yuuki Uchiki, walking home after a day at college.

Snapshot_5

Now on the first watch of this episode I thought she was in high school mostly because she looks so freaking young.

Do you have the friend or family member that just looks like they have a connection to the Fountain of Youth or something?

I have a relative that’s 46 with a 2 year old granddaughter. She still gets carded when she goes to buy stuff like alcohol and cigarettes.

So it looks like she’s about to graduate this Spring.

Anyway as she runs away from the girls she’s leaving the campus with she says this.

Snapshot_6

It’s a metaphor I suppose. It’s still winter in the anime but Spring is coming around soon. I want to say it’s about February there. Other half is more Japanese culture.

In Japan, Spring is known as the season of new beginnings and fresh starts. So when Yuuki says that Spring isn’t going to come she means that she’ll never change.

Sad it isn’t.

So we move on to Ryo and the gang. Looks like they’re in cram school now.

Snapshot_7

And it’s emptier than my stomach right now…even sadder.

So it turns out that a lot of people skipped cram school because they’re down to the final few weeks before the Entrance Exams.

Snapshot_8

Speak the truth, short sister!

I had to take Entrance Exams to get into my high school but granted my story wouldn’t motivate you. I just slept, napped, played PS2(Hey this was 2008), and studied like once or twice. I went to the school of my choice, took the test, and passed into the 84th percentile.

I am a bad example for studying and prudence…

Anyway as a group of girls from the school they want to go to pass Kirin wonders if she’s good enough to get into high school, if she’ll make any friends, or even fit in.

Which is a very reasonable feeling first going into high school or even going to college. They’re both very frigtening experiences.

So what does Ryo do? Suggest renting a movie!

That’s nice. Something fun to perk her up.

Snapshot_9

What the hell is wrong with you woman?! What kinda sick sense of humor is this?

Who taught you that lie?

So after the movie, Kirin’s still stressed. Not just about the exams and making friends. She’s worrying about her parents’ rice fields and environmental issues…

What is with that?

So to wondering if Ryo’s feeling something similar, Kirin asks. Ryo doesn’t got nothing else other than what Kirin’s feeling. She does worry about her laudry outside…which she forgot to pull in!

Snapshot_12

They go outside to pull in the futons when they hear the conversation between Yuuki(the neighbor below Ryo) and her mother.

What kinda mother suggests her daughter learn to bellydance?

The main issue with Yuuki and her mother isn’t that her mother doesn’t love her. She doesn’t understand the situation properly. According to Yuuki, her mother’s very outgoing while her daughter is fairly shy.

It happens a lot. Parents that were the life of the party as kids and young adults have children that are quiet and shy. Happened to me. My dad was the captain of the football team and I want to be a computer programmer…that’s about as opposite as it gets. He still loved me though. There’s always that.

Anyway Ryo and Kirin listen on Yuuki’s conversation but after a certain amount of time Ryo says that it’s impolite to keep listening.

Snapshot_22

However Kirin’s too far gone and by gone I mean over the rail! That’s right she falls from the 2nd floor…

Snapshot_23

And she sticks the landing like a badass!

So after Kirin’s epic landing, Ryo and Kirin go down to Yuuki’s apartment to apologize. However Yuuki turns it into a beat up session on herself. However she rarely talks mostly because she’s thinking bad of herself.

However Kirin understands her feeling wondering about her future. Yuuki feels that with the way she is there’s nothing she can do. She says so much that could inspire Kirin but she doesn’t much of it outloud.

This is definitely a problem I have and it’s always held me back. I don’t want to look stupid in front of others so I keep my mouth shut and retreat into my thoughts where no one can judge me. Ironically I am a very cruel judge of myself…

There’s no where I can go….Being Deven is suffering, desho?

Because her inability to talk to people she only has two friends…

Someone asked on Reddit ‘What if the cat eats the bird?’ Good question! We will never know the answer though.

So the door rings and the pizza delievry is here.

Snapshot_28

Wow for types of pizza in one! That’s awesome.

Now don’t try this with your local pizza shop. They probably aren’t going to do it. Also apparently Yuuki is somewhat rich. Mostly because she can afford to eat pizza everyday and a large pizza in Japan(which around the size of a medium here in America) costs around 3000 yen or 24. 71 American Dollars at today’s exchange rate. Plus toppings. She’s spending roughly about 35 dollars per pizza plus side dishes. That’s a lot…

She has seafood pizza, gratin(a type of pasta), Yakiniku pizza, and salami and mushroom pizza so she can eat four meals out of it. However she work out like no one’s business and be rich. There’s no way she can have a body like Ryo’s and eat all that pizza everyday…

I’m getting off topic.

So Yuuki offers some of her pizza to Ryo and Kirin for coming over and talking with her. So instead of just taking it and going, Ryo invites Yuuki upstairs so they can eat together.

So when Yuuki gets up to Ryo’s apartment she starts to wonder why Ryo’s apartment is so much warmer than hers. Warmer emotionally she probably means.

The answer is that she has people that she loves over a lot and that love is in the house itself.

So it’s time to chow down and we get our goods of sexy eating.

I wish girls ate like this in real life. Every meal would be an adventure and I’d actually enjoy going to the cafeteria at my college.

Anyway Ryo gets Yuuki get some pizza but she doesn’t really want to eat.

So Yuuki is similar to Ryo and Kirin. I think this is the start of a good frienship.

So Ryo manages to get her to try and we get this.

So cute. And she notices that it tastes so much better now. It’s because you’re not alone anymore Yuuki-chan.

I think that Yuuki’s eating was cutest. She has cute music to go with it.

After that the three of them eat together and really enjoy each other’s company.

After the meal, Yuuki leaves but not saying this to herself.

I think it’s nice that that her name is Yuuki and that Kirin and Ryo gave her courage. Remember when you spell Yuki with one U it means snow. When you spell it with two U’s it’s courage. It’s a kinda pun and allowing Yuuki to live up to her name.

And meeting Yuuki gave Kirin some courage too. The next day as she’s leaving out Yuuki says bye to Kirin and Ryo.

Snapshot_56

What does she mean?

Snapshot_57

That’s the school that Kirin, Ryo, and Shiina want to go to.

Note: Yuuki actually gets the job at the Fine Arts Academy and becomes one of the girls’ teachers. Either than or librarian. I don’t know the sources I’ve read didn’t agree one thing

The episode ends with Ryo walking home after dropping Kirin off at the train station.

Snapshot_58

And we see the buds on the tree. Looks like Spring’s coming early.

Now that’s a good episode. It’s good to have a character that you really connect with. It makes a good anime even better.

Snapshot_61

You aren’t alone as you think Yuuki.

So this is the 10th episode of Koufuku Graffiti so that means that there’s only two more episodes left. Let’s hope that we end with a bang!

Until the next episode,

Koufuku Graffiti Episode 9: Mind on Suzuka and Nostalgic First Meetings

It’s been one year since they met. How have they changed during this year? I’m also totally seeing a lot of things that remind me of my favorite manga, Suzuka, here. Oh of they had made a full anime of it…

So we start the episode with Ryo cleaning the house so she starts the new year off right. Then Akira calls saying that’s she’ll finish work as as quickly as she can so she can spend New Year’s with her niece.

Snapshot_1

Aw that’s nice. Kirin’s choosing to spend her New Year’s with Ryo instead of her family. That’s nice of her.

So after Ryo hangs up, Akira says this.

Well Ryo’s not as alone as she used to be. And you’d be less alone if you showed up more! Still I like that that Akira wants to be with her niece on New Years instead of going out drinking or something else.

So after the opening, Ryo gets down to some serious business, cleaning!

Snapshot_5

Alright let’s clean! You go and clean Ryo-chan while I sit around and read Suzuka. I really wish they had copies of the manga in my local area. If I bought them online, they’d have to be delievered and my mother would look through them and assume that it’s something ecchi.

Note: Suzuka when printed in America is under the mature manga rating because the bath house scenes are uncensored

Anyway after a few hours of cleaning, everything and apparently she’s got some tips on how to clean, Ryo takes a bath because she’s the last thing left dirty.

After that we move over to what I think is Hiroshima(I so wish for it to be) where Kirin’s sitting around, relaxing under the kotatsu watching tv.

That’s right. The last thing you want to do is take transportation on a major holiday. It will be packed.

Despite that Kirin’s going to go on the 6 o’ clock

If you say so…

So we go back to Tokyo where Ryo’s going to the supermarket for some stuff for tonight’s dinner, New Year’s soba as well as some oden.

But while she’s looking around, we get this.

Snapshot_12

Someone please meme this so we have some funny Yuri sayings to go with this.

Anyway Ryo gets surprised and predictably falls on her butt. After they leave Ryo tries to invite Shiina over for New Year’s but she’s already got family stuff…and apparantly it’s dangerous…

So no Shiina again in this episode. I need Shiina! Give us more Shiina!

So we move over to Ryo back at home where she’s making the oden and she texts Kirin about it. She starts getting tempted to eat some…

Snapshot_16

She knows!

So the temptation is real and Ryo falls.

Don’t eat it all! Kirin hurry or you won’t get anything.

Snapshot_23

She’s practically already there…

So to get Kirin moving, Kirin’s mom says this.

Oooh scary old guy. And with that Kirin’s like the Flash and she’s already ready.

So while they’re driving to the station, Kirin’s mom asks if she got a ticket…and she didn’t.

Now tragically I have to admit I’ve had this logic before.

So because they live so far away from the city, Kirin thinks that it’s fine to go without a ticket…

Yeah let’s see how that goes.

Snapshot_26

See that’s why kids need adults. They think of the stuff they take for granted.

So now they’ve got to wait for the next train. Reminds me of the Hiroshima arc of Suzuka where Yamato and Suzuka get left by the train heading back to Tokyo so they stay with Yamato’s parents for a few days. I really like how they did the bellflower with the firefly confession thing.

….

Does anyone know what I’m talking about or am I the only Suzuka fan here?

Anyway so the next train doesn’t leave for another hour so she calls Ryo to explain.

And she’s sad that the oden and soba have to wait for her.

Snapshot_27

That’s right. That’s bad manners.

Also check this out.

Snapshot_28

I can’t get a good angle on it but I’m guessing because it only has four panels Ryo’s reading the Koufuku Graffiti manga. It’s a common thing in anime for the characters to read the manga that the anime is based on some times. Heck in Date A Live, Kotori reads Date A Live. Ponder that for a moment…

Anyway after getting off the phone with Kirin, Ryo goes out to the station to meet with her and flashes back to the first time she met her.

Now the Yuri-ness is high level here. There’s a lot of couples walking around and holding hands and Ryo’s thinking about a girl. I can read between the lines…

So after a few minutes Kirin comes and they try to make it home before New Years. However Ryo trips. Kirin notices her cold hands and does this.

Snapshot_33

True yuri is true beauty.

Totally Yuri. Granted what she’s smelling is probably the food smell on her.

Also did anyone notice that Ryo’s wearing a dress that ends at the mid thigh and Kirin’s wearing shorts in the middle of a Japanese winter?

So once they get home it’s time to dig in…and there’s no sexy eating scenes! Where are they? No close ups, no dramatic music, no super shining eyes. This isn’t what I signed on for!

So the clock counts down and New Year’s here so what does first thing that Ryo wants to do now that it’s the new year?

Snapshot_36

Eh?

Snapshot_37

That’s something I can get behind. So Ryo suggests going to the shrine. I think it’s called Hatsumode. It’s where you go to a shrine and offer up prayers for what you want your new year to bring. There’s occasionally snacks and games too.

So they try to leave out but looks like Akira manages to make it in time!

Snapshot_38

Looks like me after either a long reviewing session or a long writing session. Screw it she looks like look all the time…sad it isn’t.

Anyway after a cute as I don’t know what cheek rub to both Kirin and Ryo, Akira, Ryo, and Kirin get going to the neighborhood shrine.

Snapshot_40

That’s nice.

So while they walk by, Akira gets called out to by some old friends and gets drinking…

Then again Ryo and Kirin can’t talk since they’re drinking some amasake which is non-alcohol sake. It’s quite sweet apparently and served warm.

Snapshot_41

It’s been what two or three minutes and she’s wasted. What’s the Japanese equalavent to AA?

So Ryo and Kirin head home where they eat up the last of the oden and soba. They start to remember when they first met and they say even though they’re going to grow up they still want to be able to share meals together like this.

Now isn’t that just sweet. I really like that because drift away from each other as they grow up. However these two want to still stay together.

So the next day Ryo takes Kirin back to the station and says by until next week.

Snapshot_46

And with that the episode’s over. Pretty good episode but I really want some more Shiina. Come on she’s a main character yet she’s only getting a little time each episode.

464VAZQ

So that’s another good episode gone and Koufuku Graffiti counting down to its final 3 episodes. What do you think is going to happen next? Will we finally know who that lady is that lives under Ryo?

Koufuku Graffiti Episode 8:Cooking Kirin

It seems that we’ve got a shift in the dynamic in the show. Now we’re seeing more of Kirin cooking

So we got this at the episode…

Noobs. Watch a master at eating sexily.

Learn from the master! So after the opening we have Kirin throwing volleyballs at Ryo. Why? Preparing for field day!

Ryo asked for a crash course so she’d be ready. Let’s see how she’s doing.

Snapshot_9

It’s okay Ryo-chan. You weren’t meant to do physical activities. You were meant to be cute and cook cutely.

Hmm I see why you hate it. But you were soo freaking adorable.

So while Ryo can’t do field day it gives Kirin something help here with since apparently she’s very in shape. Wow all this time I thought she was short and flat chested. Turns out she’s just compact…ahahahaha that’s what all short folk say.

Anyway turns out that Field Day is going to be on Sunday so that day Ryo isn’t going to be going to cram school. So Kirin’s going alone…wait Shiina’s going to be there.

I’m beginning to see not really arcs but more of shifts in the anime. The first part was Ryo and Kirin getting to know each other. That was the winter. Then during the spring and summer they got close to Shiina. Now it’s the fall, now the three of them are close enough friends where they want to cook for each other.

It’s also showing a shift in Ryo and Kirin’s dynamic. It used to be Ryo doing all the cooking but now in the last two episodes, Ryo hasn’t cooked at all. It’s been all Kirin or Shiina. I think this is good personally.

Anyway we move to the next day at Ryo’s school.

Snapshot_13

Aw her middle school is way better than mine’s was. They tell her that starting this year the students will have to bring their lunches for field day as opposed to in the past where the school gave them lunch.

Looks like Ryo’s going to have whip up one of her awesome lunches.

They aren’t that far off the mark…

So after school, we see this lady…

Snapshot_16

Who is she damn it!? It’s been eight episode and we still don’t know nothing! She just appears in between scenes.

Anyway Ryo’s home, looking at the letter they sent home explaining the lunch thing. She flashs back to when she was younger and her grandma made her lunch for field day.

The feels…

So remembering that Kirin offered to make her lunch, Ryo makes a list of the things that she wants for lunch. However she realizes what’s she’s asking for is a bit too much for someone that’s still learning how to cook so she throws the list away.

However…

Snapshot_20

Why is it always that people find stuff like this at the middle of the night going to the bathroom?

So the next day instead of hanging out with Ryo and Shiina, Kirin heads straight back home.

I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t be rushing home to this. Shoot I’d stay in Tokyo as long as possible. I think she might live in Hiroshima or somewhere like it. Mostly because it takes only a few hours on the bullet train to get from Hiroshima to Tokyo.

I’m probably getting this from Suzuka but hey I could be right or wrong so don’t quote me on that.

So Kirin talks with her mom about Ryo and her grandma and turns out that Kirin’s Mom is Ryo’s Grandma’s niece. So…let’s see…

If Kirin’s Mom is Ryo’s Grandma’s niece that makes Kirin’s Grandma and Ryo’s Grandma sisters. So Kirin’s mom and Ryo’s Mom and aunt are cousins and that means that Kirin and Ryo are 2nd cousin.

So Kirin says that she’s going to ask her Dad to help her learn how to cook all the stuff Ryo wants. Wait your mom’ sitting right there. Why don’t you ask her?

Poor Mom can’t even cook…

So when Kirin gets to Ryo’s place, she does this…

EH? But Ryo’s not ready for such a beautiful act such yuri.

Turns out she’s just changing into her running clothes so they can practice for Field Day.

And when they go into the supermarket, Kirin reveals that she found Ryo’s lunch list and she’s going to make everything on it even though she’s not very good at cooking.

Just trust her Ryo. That’s all you need to do.

So once they get home, Kirin kicks Ryo out of the kitchen so her lunch can be a surprise.

Snapshot_32

And the next morning, it begins with the 3rd year 100 meter dash…what’s a meter? I’m from America. We don’t do your fancy metric system!

Anyway…

Ryo starts, remembering how Kirin helped her and even made her lunch for her. With that Ryo feels like she can do anything!

Wow she looks like she’ll win…

But she couldn’t and dead last. Now that’s funny how they made it look like she was winning but then we see that she epically failed.

So after the race, one of Ryo’s friends notices that she looks tired and turns out that Ryo stayed up all night to make sure Kirin didn’t hurt herself while cooking.

Aw that’s nice. And now it’s time for lunch so we’ll see if Kirin failed or not.

Snapshot_42

So while her friends are wondering who made her lunch, we switch to Kirin and Shiina. Turns out that Kirin messed up alot while making Ryo’s lunch so she and Shiina are eating the messes.

Then we switch back to Ryo where they start eating.

So cute.

So then after seeing all of cute reactions, her friends want to have some too.

Noobs. You can’t do sexy eating without practicing!

Snapshot_53

It’s not good.

Snapshot_54

It only tastes good to Ryo because it was made by someone she loves. And it tastes so good that she does this.

Snapshot_55

Now that’s nice but this is funny.

I think that Ryo has some issues with halluncinations…

So after the Field Day Ryo meets Kirin while she’s walking home and Kirin apologizes for making a horrible lunch. But Ryo says that it was delicious.

And the episode ends with Kirin leaving for home while Ryo thanks her for the lunch again.

Snapshot_60

I can’t wait for the next episode. We’ve been seeing alot of a change of the dynamics between the girls. I hope that we see a bit more of Shiina next episode.

Hey everyone it’s Deven Luca and I’m coming at you with a quick Koufuku Graffiti post. I was bored and I wanted to check something about Maaya Sakamoto and Fate/Grand Order. So when I looked at that I wanted to check out the lyrics. And with some help from Satsu-Nyan from Seiyuuri giving me the website I was able to find them.

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 7: Roles Reversed

Role Reversal. The act of taking on a role of another and walking in their shoes. This is the situation that our cute and moe protagonists find themselves in

Like that? I’ve been reading and watching a lot of Date A Live preparing for a post.

So we start off this episode with Ryo eating some fish.

Looks good. Makes me wish I didn’t have chicken tonight.

So after the opening(I plan to have a post that goes over the lyrics soon.) we have the entire class outside sketching. And it’s autumn now so it’s a lot cooler than summer.

Snapshot_7

It must be at the beginning of September. You know that part of September where you can still get away with wearing shorts, tanktops, and stuff like that. Then that first cold snap hits then you’re caught outside freezing your butt off because you thought it was going to be warm.

Anyway…

Snapshot_8

Ooh a fish cookout. Normally I’d say fish fry because of all that clever alliteration but they aren’t frying the fish, they barbecuing it.

So what do you say girls?

Snapshot_9

You guys are so easy to read. So turns out that Shiina’s relatives send them way too much saury than they can eat and most of it goes to waste and the cats come around because they love the smell.

Snapshot_10

Ryo gets pumped because they’ll be cooking on a clay charcoal brazier. It’s small little thing that cooks one fish at a time.

But Shiina isn’t having any of that.

Snapshot_11

Ehh? No Ryo cooking? Then what did I come here for?

Turns out that Kirin is a big freeloader with Ryo. Ryo does all the cooking, all the setup, and all the dishes while Kirin sits around watching TV or reading. It would have been great to know what she was reading though.

So with that we go to next week. Kirin leaves to go help Shiina with the cooking while Ryo says home and relaxes…or at least that’s the plan.

Unfortunately you can’t put two cute girls in the kitchen and magic happen so Shiina asks Tsuyuko to help out with their cooking. While they’re cooking, Ryo comes over to Shiina’s place because she can’t just sit at home.

So Shiina and Kirin finish cooking the Saury and give the first fish they cooked.

Snapshot_15

Looks like it’s good.

Snapshot_16

Ouch right in the confidence but it’s more important that Ryo liked it because they were cooking for her.

It’s true. Always alone for two years. That was Ryo. It’s hard to depend on others when you’ve always been alone.

And we end the episode with Ryo and Kirin cooking some leftovers at home.

Snapshot_24

Hmm not as much orgasmic eating but I like it. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 6: Suggestive Bath Time

That first scene! Also it’s still summer in the anime! Go to autumn! I’m tired of feeling jealous

So we start off with this scene…

Food porn indeed. You saw the way that she had the ice cream in her mouth. You can’t say that was implying something.

Anyway after the opening we flash to the girls who are getting tired of summer.

Snapshot_6

Which is completely standard no matter where you live or how long your summer break is. Those last few weeks of August I while I was in middle school and high school I was begging to go back to school…then I got there and started asking when was winter break.

Hahaha

Anyway they go outside and Kirin starts screaming about the heat which is to be expected since the Japanese blast the AC to the maximum.

So Ryo and Kirin say bye to Shiina and start heading back home. What?! No Shiina this episode. Aw she’s cute and I love her snark. How can I go on?

So while walking home, Kirin says that she wants something cool to eat but Ryo says that she needs a proper meal.

Snapshot_7

Looks like pigs started flying and hell froze over. This girl cannot not be hungry…I don’t even know what I just said…darn double negatives.

Anyway after Ryo gets a picture to capture this moment, she suggests that they eat some broiled eel over rice to boost up their stamina. Yeah that will send those lazy days away!

Snapshot_8

Looks like you’ve got someone’s attention, Ryo.

So the girls go shopping and have a good time. I really like these little parts. Also as much I don’t like to admit it, I like grocery shopping. I like cooking too. I’d like to say it’s not weird for a guy to like this stuff but I’m not sure.

So once they get home, Ryo gets cooking.

Lucky I just ate or I’d be ordering some Chinese at 11pm at night. The place near my place has late hours…still hungry.

So we can’t have eating scene in Koufuku Graffiti without the sexy eating scene.

You can’t get stuff like this anywhere else.

Looks like Kirin had a good time but it didn’t feel that craving she had.

Snapshot_22

This girl can truly eat but before Ryo can say something else the AC breaks down…in the middle of a Japanese summer. Those poor girls.

So what to do?

Snapshot_23

I like your ideas!

But unfortunately the bath isn’t full yet so they’ll have to wait. They decide to pass the time by playing Shiritori.

Note: Shiritori is a Japanese game where you say words that start with the same kanji that the word previous had.

That’s some good curry but they keep thinking of all hot stuff and get hotter.

So Ryo thinks of the idea to shower off the sweat…good idea!

Curses, damn the steam!

So once they get into the tub, Ryo talks about summers with her grandma and once she gets around to talking about ice cream…

Snapshot_32

Ice cream in the tub? Too weird. So Ryo goes to get the ice cream and gets caught up in the cool air from the freezer. It’s happened to best of us on a hot day.

After that Kirin comes out of the bath and realizes that the curtains are all open.

Snapshot_33

Haha yeah right. What is this? The 90s.

Deven puts away his telescope

So Kirin jumps in front of Ryo to protect her because apparently no one cares to look at flat chested girls when looking at the stacked for a 14 year old Ryo.

So they get the ice cream and get back into the bath.

Now if that isn’t blatantly sexual I’m just an idiot. Here’s another.

Snapshot_39

Come on!

So when they get out of the bath, Ryo asks if Kirin asks if she got what she wanted?

Snapshot_40

Still. You’ve eaten broiled eel and rice and ice cream and you’re still hungry.

So after changing into their pajamas where Kirin gets a craving for red bean soup. I don’t really know this dish. I think it’s sweet because I know mochi is sweet and another name for azuki bean soup is sweet bean soup.

Snapshot_41

Looks yummy but why does she want a hot soup in the middle of summer?

Snapshot_42

Looks like that hit the spot. So with a little prodding from Kirin, Ryo has some too.

Snapshot_43

And during the night Shiina comes to bring some stuff to help out.

And ends up seeing Ryo with a massive stomachache from eating all that stuff. Predictably, Kirin’s alright. I’m one of those people that can eat anything. I once as a kid had some Ramen noodles and then right after had some peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with grape soda. I was fine afterwards. Everyone else thought I was about to barf.

Anyway Shiina tells Ryo that she needs some sleep after trying to eat all that stuff.

After that Ryo heads to bed and Shiina stays a bit to eat some soup before leaving.

Snapshot_44

Then while she sleeps Ryo has a dream of her grandma.

Snapshot_45

Then we end the episode with Shiina walking home about to barf because she had too much soup.

And with that episode 6 is over. I can’t wait for the next episode to come out. It’s downloading as I do this review.

Let’s Look: Koufuku Graffiti Episode 5:They Are Warm and We’re Cold…

It’s summer in the anime and I’m chilling sodas in snowdrifts. When’s spring coming? Not just for all the awesome shows but for the freaking warmth!

Kirin must be high as a kite, thinking she’s a ninja and stuff. That’s a Fairy Tail joke.

So we start off the episode with that it’s summer, the season of relaxing and going to the beach.

Note: Japanese School Years have one month of summer break rather than three like most countries

So are our three cute girls relaxing at home or at the beach?

Snapshot_14

Too bad they can’t go. Darn Cram school. I swear they push these kids too hard for these exams. I took a placement test for my high school and got into 82% percent…if only I had gotten into the 85% percentile then I would have gotten a scholarship. Anyway I’m probably not a good example, I’m tragically naturally intelligent and have a brain that soaks up info like a sponge so I didn’t need to study much.

Anyway after class, Kirin’s sad that they aren’t doing anything during their last summer as middle schoolers.

And trust me you want to love it as much as you can because high school and college suck.

Snapshot_15

Alright!

And Shiina says that they can do any summer activity they want over there!

Yes!

Snapshot_19

Party pooper.

So Ryo and Kirin go home and Kirin writes a list of all the stuff that she wants to do over Shiina’s house.

Snapshot_20

That’s a lot of stuff. You do remember you’re in the middle of Tokyo right?

Snapshot_21

We aren’t Tokyo anymore are we?

So this is Shiina’s place…she lives in a mansion!

We also meet this lady who gives Kirin a tomato…who then eats it like it’s an apple

As they go through place, Kirin keeps crossing off more and more stuff. Man Shiina’s rich.

We meet Shiina’s mom and she’s about the exact opposite of Shiina. She’s so genki and cute. How did Shiina come out of that?

Snapshot_22

So later in the day the girls get hungry so Shiina’s mom says that they can make some Somen noodles. Those are basically cold noodles that are dipped in a broth. I’ve heard from a cousin of mine’s that gone to a ramen shop that they’re delicious…he should take me next time. He didn’t give me anything for my birthday…

Anyway to make the Somen you’ve got to have some bamboo for the water to flow through. Where are we going to find bamboo in the middle of Tokyo?

Then they meet up with Shiina’s maid, Tsuyuko and she helps them cut down the bamboo and make the noodles in the kitchen.

Snapshot_25

Okay now that looks pretty cool. The Japanese know how to make food! It looks fun.

Also I feel the need to say this.

She’s putting the dish right up at the camera and explains what’s she’s doing. It’s like she’s on a cooking show.

So after they make and eat the noodles…Kirin ate most of them…where does it all go?

Shiina’s mom thanks them for coming and explains that she was the one that asked for them to come over. Turns out Shiina’s been a lot more open and happy since she’s been spending time with Kirin and Ryo.

Snapshot_28

So once the sun goes down, they put up some Tanzaku for Tanbata, set off fireworks, smash watermelons, and set up paper lanterns so looks like Kirin did everything on her list…how? Just how?

Snapshot_29
